Another GREAT idea for you craftsmen out there .... calling Dinty

This was a gift to me - actually TWO gifts to me - from people who knew I love 'the old, restored and reusable in new form' ....

A dear friend of mine who has since died of cancer rewarded me with this wall piece from her antique shop. It's an old 'delicate fabric' washboard made to serve as a cupboard door and attached by hinges to a small homemade shelving unit. I hung it on my kitchen wall, and I keep my vitamins and such in this piece. I love it for its uniqueness and present it here as another great idea for old washboard uses. I think it was a GRAND and very creative idea.

The other item on my wall is an antique match box. It's just there because it looks pretty and hangs in its original form. When I lived in WY, a gal I came to know intimately as a very lovely friend, had it hanging on her wall. She had inherited it from her mother, and her mother's mother before her. I admired it as a lovely piece. At Christmas time, she wrapped it and presented it to me as a Christmas gift. I cried!! I thought that was one of the nicest things anyone had ever done for me.

ENJOY ...........

I love the match holder... it's beautiful. I love the idea of your washboard cabinet, it's very unique and homey and looks well with your wallpaper boarder.

ET:

I too love old things. Chato used to tell me he was old but I told him he was quality and the new stuff is all junk. LOL.

But seriously, I have many antique whatnots in my place. I have a few old radios or replicas. One of the reason I love the Goodwill and thrift stores is because you can find some amazing and unusal treasures there.

I love your washboard and such a creative use. I need a medicine cabinet in my downstairs powder room so might use this idea.

Very neat ET. I love Antique everything. Very unusual and special pieces for you, coming from special people in your life.

How clever the washboard is now! I had a match holder like that.....hmmm, where is it? I probably left it when I moved.

Wow, that would go great at Uncle Ben's cabin as a gift. Thank you again ET. (((hugs))) Looks like I have to put the beaver bird house away for now and go yard sale hunting.

I really like this. It would have gone well in my former house which was built in 1910.

Beep - you probably have a larger wash board. This one is small for hand-washing delicate fabric.

Yours is a very good idea. What better place for this than in a laundry room?

My view of antiques changed when I started going into these stores and found items I grew up using, were now considered antiques

I love the matchbox and remember the matchbox my daddy used when we lived on the farm. I'm not big on antiques but do have a few, I guess my tastes in furniture/etc. could be labeled as being eclectic.

As usual I have enjoyed another one of your blogs. Thank you....

LOL @ Roxy - And my view of 'antique' changed when I visited the temple in Old Cairo where Jesus, Mary and Joseph were said to take refuge from King Herod. LOL

I'm not necessarily promoting antiques here, Roxy .... just new and creative ways of using old stuff and artful craftsmanship. I use that match box for toothpicks. Yep, I really do. It has a flip lid on the top so they stay clean of dust. I even make that item functional. LOL

But how can I play that washboard? I thought they were only musical instruments in a jug band!

Dance like no one sees, sing like no one hears, love like you've never been hurt
