This past week I have taken my blood pressure readings several times that show relatively normal readings, but the pulse rates were sometimes higher than normal.
I awoke an hour ago, in the middle of the night, and decided to check my blood pressure. It was 130/80. However, the pulse rate showed 103 which is the highest I have seen it.
There was a slight pain in my left arm between the shoulder and elbow. I had been lying on my left side with my body on top of the arm so figured that was why there was the discomfort. It is not hurting now.
Am I worrying too much? My 89 year old sister had a heart attack a month ago, but seems fine now. Our father had died of a second heart attack at age 66 after surviving a massive one in his mid 50ies.
The only medication I take is for glaucoma, and I feel healthy. I sometimes take a baby aspirin (I used to take one daily after my heart went crazy a few years ago, but the arteries were clear).

Get to the nearest doctor or emergency room ASAP. That heart rate is far too high unless something is stressing you big time.

Worrying about it will give you a stroke. That aspirin works wonders.

I am not a Doctor but sounds to me like perhaps you have Sleep Apnea. I would check into a Sleep Disorder program to be evaluated. I have Sleep Apnea, suffered a Heart Attack in my sleep at the age of 47. Luckily I was diagnosed and now use a CPAP machine nightly. Some Apnea signs are - snoring. holding your breathe, waking up several times a night to pee, feeling exhausted when you awaken in the morning and drowsy during the day. I suggest you look into this, it is a silent killer and WILL get worse All The Best Charles

As a nurse I can tell you that you need you blood pressure measured and certainly put on medication to control it. High blood pressure can lead to many things you do not want, heart failure, kidney failure among other things including stroke. Make an appointment with a doctor(it does not have to be a male like the Azz above suggested)as soon as possible, he might also suggest that you are overweight and need to loose some weight and borderline diabetic, that will lead to a whole new can of worms....Best of luck...

Go TO EMERGENCY ROOM - immediately!
Explain the situation to them as you've explained it to us.
AND - DO THAT NOW, DO NOT WAIT 'until it happens again' - GO TO EMERGENCY ROOM NOW!
Repeating ---- GO TO EMERGENCY ROOM NOW AND TELL THE ATTENDING DOCTOR THERE EACH AND EVERY DETAIL - DO NOT 'WAIT' to see whether it happens again ......
GO TO EMERGENCY ROOM NOW !

I'd have it checked out anyway, just to be sure. Last week I had a pain in my left arm and I was sure I was going "upwards" but Im still here. Everything seems like an emergency when we get older. My BP is always borderline.

Blood pressure and heart rate can be normal with a heart problem. You should go to the ER rather than wait to see a MD in thier office. The ER is much better equipped to check things our in detail. You can follow up with your regular MD.
Heart rate can be elevated for a number of reasons but only a thorough medical evaluation can tell what that might be. It is definitely a sign that something is wrong.
Agreeing with Yaya - I have had female doctors for the past 30 years. Some were great, some not but for women they are a better choice.

Hi Meri: I also hope you will get that pulse rate checked out. My pulse is just the opposite, usually way too low. Sometimes I feel light headed and when I check my pulse rate is in the 40s or 50s, but my b.p. is o.k. I think an athletic pulse is normally low, but not as low as mine. I don't know Meri, but maybe you're really out of shape and need a good exercise programme. Hope you will be o.k.

There's nothing new that I can add to the foregoing except to suggest that you get checked out by a professional medical person soon.

YOUR PULSE RATE IS WAY TOO HIGH!!!
Your Blood Pressure rate is highish but not dangerous. Your pulse rate IS TOO HIGH.......you need both checked out.......emerg at hospital, NOW.....not at your family doctor.

Since Meri's post is over 12 hours old and she last accessed this blog around noon, we can only assume that she decided to see a doctor.
There are some aches and pains that you can ask about here, as others may have had the same problem and can tell you about their experience with diagnoses and treatments. Physical symptoms involving blood pressure, heart rate and left-arm pain are signs you need to see a professional.
With your family history of heart attacks, continuing to take a daily aspirin may be a good preventive measure. Ask your doctor.

Meri, I missed your post here last week. But I hope you are OK. It never hurts to go see your doctor - if it's a false alarm there is no harm done.
MAKE EACH DAY GREAT..........LIVE, LOVE AND LAUGH OFTEN.
