Here's Your Challenge... Jul 21, 2006 6:15 am
493 Views
If you knew, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that you would ULTIMATELY be successful, what dream would you pursue?
Personally, the dreams I'm pursuing are:
supporting myself comfortably with my painting, photography and writing;
traveling and capturing the images and stories of the people I meet;
and loving ONE man EVERY day as if there were no tomorrow.
Will all these dreams reach fruition? Maybe yes, maybe no! But either way I win, simply because I got in the game and gave it my all.

So, what is my challenge to you?
Acknowledge your dream and set the wheels in motion to make it come true!
Tell me about your journey and allow me to cheer you on!!!!

My grandson Rob is home from Iraq!!!!
Praise God he is fine and ready to start back to college.
We have been blessed and are thankful.

For those of you who have doubts about God and the Christian faith I would like to add:
If Rob had been wounded, no matter how badly, our family would have been thankful for him to be alive and would have rallied around him with love and care.
If Rob had been killed we would have grieved deeply but would still have been thankful to know that when he left this world he entered a better one. Our faith doesn't tell us that we are going to live in a cocoon of protection....it says that what ever we face God will be with us and bring us through it.

I don't think our family is any more loved by God than those who have had to go through the wounding or death of one of their loved ones.
I believe that Rob's work is not done here and he has survived to complete that work.

Maybe I am too simplistic in my faith but I believe that Satan is the source of all the evil, painful, horrific situations in the world and our time here is a testing ground. Will we hold onto our faith even when sorely tested? God offers the strength and a peace that passes all understanding to help us through the hard times.
And if we prove faithful our reward is great.

So I thank God for the joy of seeing my grandson return home to continue his journey and complete the race set before him.

At the same time I ask God to touch the lives of each man and woman serving our country and their families. May all of them find peace in whatever the outcome of their service may be.

FRIDAY 'S CHECK-IN Jun 30, 2006 8:17 am

This has been an interesting week.
I started a new eating and exercise plan in hopes of regulating my blood sugar. Also want to lose some weight.
The results were a bit disappointing on the weight
with only one pound gone.
But my blood sugar has been in the normal range for the past two days.
Definitely worth continuing. If I only lose one pound every week I will still eventually reach my goal weight. And my eating habits will be totally transformed so that I won't just gain it all back.
How did the rest of you do this week?
I think about you a lot and hope things are going well for each of you.
Have a wonderful weekend...and Fourth of July!!!

Unexpected Wisdom...... Jun 29, 2006 7:41 am

Have you ever been given a simple bit of advice that radically changed your life?
I once worked with a lovely lady with a most amazing appearance. Her hair was bright copper with jet black roots, her skin was caramel and she was about as big around as she was tall. Her name was Mz. Katherine.
She frequently made truly sage comments. The one that made such a difference to me was"Honey, you can do bad by Yo'seff"
How true! That bit of insight helped me end some sadly toxic relationships that I had held onto simply because I thought I should.
I'd love to talk over some of my current problems with Mz. Katherine.
Is there anyone in your life like that?

I BELIEVE..... Jun 28, 2006 8:35 am

in Beauty even tho the beautiful surface often covers much that is ugly.
I believe in Poetry even tho many write it very badly.
I believe in Music even tho some can not sing or play well.
I believe in Truth even tho it sometimes hurts.
I believe in Peace even tho it sometimes takes war to secure it.
I believe in Joy even tho situations and circumstances try to erase it.
I believe in Love even tho lovers often quarrel.
I believe in Sharing even tho my sharing is not always appreciated.
I believe in God even tho I can not show you His picture or explain why He does what He does.
I believe in each of these things because they have been revealed to me in personal and inarguable ways in my life experience.
I have never tried to convince anyone to believe as I do or in the way that I do.
I have asked many to consider what I believe and make their own choice.
If I truly believe what I say I do and receive much peace and love and joy from my beliefs, then I would be selfish beyond measure not to try to share these blessings with others.
I respect each one of you and hope you will be happy in your choices.

Let's make it a really good one!!!

I'm wearing RED today. Have been told the color red raises the level of hormones responsible for surges in strength and power. Goodness knows we can sure use lots of that.

Cleaned out the kitchen yesterday. I left only one temptation;sugarfree, reduced fat ice cream.
The experts say you should have a little something now and then to keep from feeling deprived. If I find I can't have just a little and be satisfied then out it goes too.

Restocking the kitchen today with fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, whole grain cereal and bread, lean proteins, low fat dairy products and healthy fats and oils.

Today's menu for my household:
BREAKFAST
Orange Juice
Coffee for them, Earl Grey Tea for me
Splenda
Cheerios with fat free milk
Blueberries

SNACK
Yogurt with Peach

LUNCH
Skinless/boneless Chicken Tender baked with Onion
Salad (spinach, carrots, broccoli, peppers) Lowfat Ranch for them Yogurt Dressing for me
Iced Tea with Splenda

SNACK
Papaya

DINNER
Teriyaki/Lime Salmon
Green beans Tomato Salad (recipe below)
Iced Tea with Splenda

SNACK
Cottage cheese with Tropical Fruit and Walnuts(1/4cup of each)

TOMATO SALAD RECIPE
Combine 1 cubed Avacado, 1/2 cup diced Cucumbers, 1/2 cup PepperJack cheese,2 tablespoons chopped red Onion, 1 tablespoon extra virgin Olive oil, 1/4 teaspoon ground Cumin, 1 tablespoon Lime juice and 1 tablespoon Lime zest
Toss well
Arrange Tomato wedges on Lettuce leaves and top with the Avacado mixture

Got to get out of here...time to do the walking thing and then pick up the groceries.

I hope all of you have a wonderful day!

An "Ample" Challenge.... Jun 26, 2006 6:48 am

The diagnosis-Diabetes. The prognosis-excellent IF
I get my weight under control. Otherwise very poor! The weight issue is no longer a matter of wanting to look good. It is all about my health and my future.

As I seriously get down to the business of reaching my goal weight of 135 pounds; and in the process, stopping the progress of the diabetes, I wonder if there aren't others on this site who need/want to lose a few pounds.

I've noticed a few mentions of this in other blogs and have tried one of the suggestions I saw for drinking water before, during and after a meal. This has certainly helped curb my appetite. Of course I splash when I walk and I can't pass a restroom without stopping in for a short visit but a small price to pay for better health, eh?

How many of you would like to join me in this challenge? We can share tips, recipes, encouragement and victories. There is no need to mention specific weights. The purpose is not to embarass anyone but to lift each other up on the road to health.

I have already seen my doctor and she has been encouraging but has no magic bullet for me to use. My thyroid is apparently working fine and although some of the medicine I HAVE to take makes it hard to lose weight she says I can do it. The only thing she has suggested that may be unique to me( and those who also have exercise induced asthma) is to use my inhaler before I work out and again afterwards if needed.

I would recommend anyone who is serious about losing weight seeing their doctor first.

Today I am going back to an old tried and true method of taking off pounds...WALKING. When I get off here I am headed to the Civic Center to walk on the indoor track. It is too hot here to walk outdoors. My plan is to walk 1 mile 5 days this week and increase to 2 next week. My doctor says she doesn't want me to be in a big hurry. That puts too much stress on my body which will just increase the blood sugar, she tells me. I once lost a lot of weight walking 5 miles a day. I could eat anything I wanted doing that and still lost, but that was a lot of years and miles ago. We'll see what it takes now.

I'd love to have your company on this journey. Share your experiences with me. We can do this!
"Sign up today!!!"

Love Ya! Linda

No Use Pretending..... Jun 21, 2006 6:19 pm

Even tho I am looking out at the beautiful scene of a summer sunset, pink and lavender clouds against an azure expanse my heart is aching. Moments ago a brown bunny stopped a few feet away, gazed solemnly at me, seemed to decide I would be good company, and proceeded to nibble on clover. An enthusiastic mockingbird warbled an excited call to join him in his revels. The howl of a coyote reminded me there is much more here than I can see. A doe stood still as a statue for a breathless pause, then one ear flicked and she was gone. So much beauty usually fills me with joy, but tonight there is only longing, wrenching sadness. No, there is no use pretending. Tonight there will be no sweet surrender to slumber. Tonight there is only the bitter realization that I am alone.
