Challenging Times at the WV State Fair

I have been selling tickets for the WV State Fair since 2OI6 - Most years, I will take a day off, attend a concert, check out the livestock and talk to all the visiting politicians. I actually connected with the local GOP at the WV State Fair.

This year was different courtesy of the Covid-19 Outbreak. There were plans to go on with the Fair last year, but a nearby church had an outbreak of 40 cases with at least on death so the fair was cancelled. Ironically, my Quaker Group teamed up with the Charleston Meeting on zOOm and will continue to do so until September.

It's been kind of nice. I can commune with my Spiritual Community while still in my Jammies.

The Fair did open this year with some changes. The ticket sellers usually rotate to different booths but this year everyone worked with the same crew at the same place. If there is a virus - it's easier to trace it down.

I worked at the Fair Street booth by myself. My problematic left hip has become even more problematic this year. I also ended up with cellulitis in the left calf. Fortunately, I was able to park in the employee parking lot every day this year. This meant hobbling across the road with my f0ur pronged cane every day.

One lady at the gate commented, "It is really dangerous for you to be crossing the road like that." I replied, "Don't worry, my mama taught me how to look both ways before crossing the street." A gentleman who worked in the medical area offered to drive me across the road in the Golf Cart at night. He was an older gentleman who worked as a first responder of some kind.

Friday night, I stopped at the medical station and was told that he was busying doing CPR. I was advised to have a seat and wait. Naw, someone needs him more that I do so I hobbled across the road on my own.

Saturday was the last night of the fair. My gentleman friend met me at the gate with his golf cart. "Ahhh! My handsome knight in his shining white golf cart." As he was driving me back to my car, he told me about his Saturday Night adventures. Alcohol induced fights in the parking lot and people passing out inside the fair for the same reason. He even remembered that my car's name is Mozart.

Happily, the cellulitis seems to be resolving itself thanks to the obnoxious antibiotics. Nevertheless the doc and I are going to have a serious discussion about this problematic hip that he says doesn't need replacing. Enough is enough!

Reading your blogs about the fair makes me miss the sights, sounds, smells and food at the fairs!
I know I can make my own funnel cake at home, but there is something special about paying an exorbitant price for a piece of dough sprinkled with powdered sugar, and sitting at a park bench eating it while watching all the activities and people around us.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

TOUGH AS IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN, YOU DID WHAT YOU SET OUT TO DO. NOW YOU CAN LOOK BACK AND SAY "I DID IT" AND BE PLEASED ABOUT MEETING PEOPLE AND SUCH. ITY IS SO GOOD TO SEE EVENTS TAKING PLACE AGAIN EVEN IF IT IS WITH A "SANITARY PASS" AND OTHER CONSTRAINTS.
