Destiny dear - all politicians claim to be statesmen but few are acknowledged thus - in US, in the past 75 years, I can think of Truman. Please educate and tell me who others were so equipped intellectually, practically and in terms of personal integrity ??
In India, I can think of Mahatma Gandhi.
Have a wonderful Sunday and the week ahead.

You are right (as always), my dear Poetdancer - in India, a qualification to be an elected representative of the people appears to be have a criminal court case pending against the potential candidate but such candidates can not be disqualified because they have only been charge-sheeted but not convicted.
Lamentably, in the three most populous states of India - UP, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, as many as 40% of the elected representatives have charges pending against them. Some of them have been convicted by the lower courts but have appealed in the higher courts against the lower court verdict.
Therefore, we may well have to go to jails to look for statesmen of the future.
Charisma matters and is sometimes the sole determinant of electoral success; its sheen does rub off towards enhancement of acceptability of good but unpopular and statesman like ideas.
Many thanks for your visit - have a wonderful week full of love, peace and tranquility (P & T), happiness, good health and smiles.
