"It Might" .........Part deux Apr 29, 2010 6:23 am

......America faces some big challenges, big deficits, a stagnant economy, rising costs, crime, unemployment and immigration to name a few. In lieu of those the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in California has tackled a problem so important and so pressing it no doubt will spread nation wide. They have enacted an County ordinance banning toys in happy meals in fast food restaurants like MacDonald's. I have often wondered how Liberals think. In Santa Clara they have digressed from the sublime to the ridiculous. The Supervisors contend that the happy meals are not happy. They contain to much fat, sugar and salt. The measure eliminates toys in meals that have more than 485 calories. Citing the reason for the ban Santa Clara County supervisor Ken Yeager says the toys encourage children to eat unhealthful meals...........Some arguments I have heard in support of the ban are it eliminates the parents having to say no, children might become obese, children need to learn to select healthy foods....etc etc.....I am so aghast I think I will rush right down to my city hall and petition the commissioners to enact a similar measure. Put everything else crime, schools, street repair, etc, on hold this ordinance takes precedent.........I am making my protest sign right now.......

The Possibilty of "it might"..... Apr 28, 2010 8:48 am

.....They Making of a law/regulation usually occurs when things go wrong something is needed to correct the wrong and make it right. A restaurant owner friend of mine once told me that the health department failed his restaurant because he was storing his non-perishable food items in the basement under exposed pipes. When my friend asked why that was a sanitation concern he was told that leaking pipes could contaminate the food. He then told the inspector that his pipes were not leaking. The answer he got from the health inspector was "they might"....When my friend refused to remedy the situation the Health department closed his restaurant. ......In the ensuing court battle the health department tried hard to defend the "they might" principle. They were overruled and the regulation had to be changed as the Judge said as soon as the pipes start leaking then cite him for a health violation then shut him down not before. .........The "might happen" principle is now in full swing over Arizona's Immigration law. Its very vocal opponents are literally screaming "It Might" lead to racial profiling, "it might" cause legal immigrants inconvenience, "it might" cause law enforcement not to concentrate their efforts curtailing real crime. Focusing on laws based on what they might do instead of what they will do is as counter productive as it can get. As I watch the politicians and other critics including the President of Arizona's new law cry foul because "it might" simply amazes me. Enforce the law then lets have a dialog about what it "might do" . You cannot truly evaluate anything unless it actually happens.......The 10th Amendment is alive and well but it does not mean that its not being attacked......Co-mon November hurry up and get here...

Immigration ....My thoughts and my cure. Apr 27, 2010 4:23 pm

.....OK Immigration. A hot button issue that is beginning to take center stage in the political arena of both parties. I have little hope that either will get it correct but I have lots of hope the American people will. If Americans are able to communicate their thoughts on the matter than just maybe the politicians will act. Lets hope so......OK 60minman if your so smart what would you do?........#1 Secure the border. It has been estimated that a high technology fence along our Southern border will cost approx. 8 billion dollars . If the city of Boston can dig a tunnel underneath their city so that access to the airport is easier for 12 billion dollars the federal Government can build a secure fence. Yeah I know skeptics say they will just tunnel under it. True but when tunnels are discovered fill them back in. Sooner or later somebody will get tired of digging.....#2 Deal with the undocumented immigrants we already have. The majority of those folks contrary to popular opinion are not criminals. They are just like you and I . They work hard and just want a better life for their families. That sounds pretty American to me. Come up with some plan, other than amnesty to provide them the means to become legal taxpaying residents. It will serve to bring them out of the sub class where they are exploited and fearful of authorities. For the other low lifes treat them as the criminals they are. Have them serve their sentences and deport them. #3 perhaps the most important of all, "Enforce the laws already on the books"...........Will some legal residents be inconvenienced yes. I have seen State troopers set up drivers license checks and yes I was inconvenienced. Happens to all of us at one time or another but somehow we got over it. ....One last thought, Hispanic Americans have contributed much to this great country throughout or history. They have served in our Military with honor and distinction. Their culture has enriched America immeasurably adding so much to our greatness as a people and a Country...Estudio Espanol en escuela para dos anos....It doesn't bother me nor do I get upset when I hear "press one for Spanish" in fact I kinda like it.....God bless the United States of America..........

United We Stand......... Apr 26, 2010 1:44 pm

........There is so much out there to blog about these days primarily because people in this country are so divided. Libs v Cons, Dems v Reps, Obamabots v tea party patriots. Witness the Az immigration law just passed. In the spirit of unity I will not call them illegal immigrants but will refer to them by their politically correct name. The undocumented Democrat voters....... In an effort to solidify that voting bloc the President has already begun a campaign of race baiting and division. He is deflecting the law of the land as a racial issue instead of enforcing the law of the land. So intent with Social Justice the President is ignoring Justice for all...........America was united on 9/12 2001 and a scant 9 years later we are an America divided. The war on terror is replaced by overseas contingency operation. Islamic terrorism is now anti-Islamic activity. The Obama administration pits the rich against the poor. Wall street against Main street. The President is no fool for he knows that the only way for Democrats to maintain their Congressional majority is to Divide. Divide the Republicans because if they stay unified like they are now what happened in Massachusetts last January will happen in this Country come November........God bless the United States of America........

Learning a new Language........its easier than you think. Apr 25, 2010 5:32 pm

......Have you ever been in a store and the clerk gave you too much change back? well most people will correct the situation and give back the extra change......Have you ever been in traffic and saw a car ahead trying to get out from a side street. Did you speed up or slow down so they could get out?......Have you ever seen an elderly person struggle with a bag of groceries and did you go over and say "here let me help you with that?......Sure 60minman I do little things like that all the time....That's great but do you ever wonder why? Well its being honest and courteous and helpful, its the way I was brought up. Sure it is but the world would not come to an end if you didn't. Scientist call unexplained behavior in animals as instincts. Instinct is the inherent inclination of a living organism toward a particular behavior. As humans we are not programmed like animals we have a free will. We constantly decide on things to do or not to do....Those small decisions are reached by a little twinge in the back of our minds. I believe its the way God speaks to us. He does not use a Booming voice coming out of the clouds telling us to be honest or helpful. He speaks to us not in English or Spanish or any other language but in ways that everybody can understand. Have you heard him speak lately? Have you felt that little click in the back of your mind? Its God's speaking the language of goodness and all you have to do is listen.......

......This is a picture of one of my adult son's home in Pennsylvania. It is so remote on the side of a Mountain that all you can see its lots of land and plenty of Sky. The only evidence of civilization is way off in the distance you can see some high tension wires passing through the region. Driving to his home on a dirt road I went past his neighbor's home. 8 miles later I arrived at his home that you see in the picture. I often wonder why he lives there and I am concerned about my 2 grandaughters. He and his wife seem happy and content as do the little ones so I reluctanly accept their lifestyle......The price one pays to have a nice view.....

Why? ........ Apr 23, 2010 10:20 am

.....A few days ago there were some blogs about President Obama and his Birth Certificate. The debate seems to center on whether he is or is not a natural born American citizen. There is no evidence that he is not and lots of evidence that he is. Everyone has seen the Certification of Live Birth and knows about the birth announcements in local Hawaiian newspapers. The question that goes unanswered is why we cant see a copy of his birth certificate that Hawaii issued his parents within days after his birth? Recently my son who was born in Honolulu wanted to get a passport but had misplaced his birth certificate. He paid the 10 dollar fee and requested a copy of his birth certificate from the Dept. of Vital Statistics in Hawaii. What he received was identical to the one given to me 5 days after his birth in 1974. That birth certificate names not only the hospital he was born in but the attending physician's name and signature as well. Not only does it list the Parents names and signatures but their address and occupations. It identifies whether it was a single or multiple birth. It contains signatures of the issuing official, the Director of Health and the Registrar General of the State of Hawaii. All on a raised Notary seal......OK 60minman whats the big deal?... Do I really have to bring up the number of times President Obama told us that his administration will be transparent, transparency will ba a hallmark of his Presidency? Why the persistence by him to not come clean on this issue? He and his administration hasn't so much as said its none of our business, but comes up with one lame excuse after another. I can only conclude that there must be something or some information on that birth certificate that the President doesn't want us to know about. Why else would he stonewall the public on a inconsequential issue unless there are consequences for him. One simple act will erase all doubt about you Mr President so why don't you just show us your Birth certificate.....Why?

Honoring Mom............... Apr 22, 2010 9:04 am

.....Anna Jarvis, does that name ring a bell? Maybe, but probably not. She was from a small community in West Virginia and because of her efforts the 2nd Sunday in May since 1914 is Mothers day. She later regretted what she had done because she felt that commercialization had ruined the intent of honoring Mom. She felt greeting cards were for for lazy people who would not take a few minutes and write a letter/note and the purchase of chocolates was likewise appalling to her. She may be right and she may be wrong for if it were not for the commercialization Mothers day might not be important like it is today. Americans spend lots of money on flowers, candy, jewelry and greeting cards that day. The National Restaurant Association says its the busiest day of the year for them. Considering it that particular light perhaps the commercialization is justified......

.......Some years ago while I was still in the Military I had just checked in to my new duty station when I got a call to report right away to my Commanding Officer. Entering his office he motioned for me to have a chair. It was then that he gave me the news that I had dreaded to hear. Mom had passed away. 6 months earlier I had taken annual leave to spend with her because she had had a stroke. I remember that she wasn't her usual self for she probably knew she didn't have much time left. The look in her eyes seem to say I love you son with all my heart and I am so very proud of you. I didn't deserve that look but I accepted it. The news still shocked me to my core as you are never really ready for it. I think of her a lot and every so often I will drag out some old pictures and reminiscence about the times we had together, a Mom and her son. The time she sat in the stands for my High School graduation, the time she came to Parris Island to see me finish boot camp. The time she flew to Hawaii to spend a whole month with me. I also think about the worry and grief she must have felt when things didn't go right in my life. I do know for certain that I can never out love the love she had for me.......Remember your Mom this Mothers day the best way you know how. I know I will...........

My mother taught me Logic: Because I said so, that's why.
My mother taught me Foresight: Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident.
My mother taught me about Time Travel: If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!
My mother taught me Irony: Keep laughing and I'll give you something to cry about.
My mother taught me the science of Osmosis: Shut your mouth and eat your supper.
My mother taught about Contortionism: Will you look at the dirt on the back of your neck.
My mother taught me To Appreciate A Job Well Done: If you're going to kill each other, do it outside; I just finished cleaning.
My mother taught me about Behavior Modification: Stop acting like your father.
My mother taught me about Religion: You better pray that will come out of the carpet.
My mother taught me about the Circle of Life; I brought you into this world, and I can take you out.

..........God bless you Mom because most of all you taught me about love, and God bless all Mothers everywhere......

Surviving 2010............Democrats will dig in..... Apr 21, 2010 4:39 pm

Disclaimer.....This blog is my opinion so if your looking for sources or want evidence or any other lame excuse to deny, deviate and deflect go right ahead for it will get as much attention from me as a bowl of vinegar will get for a fly......
....Ok that's out of the way......
.......Sometime this Summer the primaries will pretty much be over and everyone will know who's running against whom. Every seat in the House of Representatives will be up for grabs and 1/3 of the Senate. With Overwhelming Democrat majorities in both chambers and historic lows in approval ratings Democrats will have to come up with a strategy to minimize the casualties they expect to have in November. Major legislation has not done what they said it will do, and the health cars reform bill will not fully be in place until 2014. They need something to energize the voter to place an X by their candidates name.
..........The one constant that Democrats have been able to exploit are Black Americans. By continually pounding that Republicans are racist they have effectively pulled the wool over the eyes of the Black community. Now I am not here to argue whether they are or not what I am saying is that this will be a major weapon they will employ because historically black voters have stayed away from the polls during mid term elections. Democrats simply cannot get elected without the Black vote. Soon you will see and hear more and more as November 2nd gets closer the racial accusations leveled at Republicans. What other choice do they have to keep their power? Wait and see every major Republican constituency from tea parties to the NRA will be labeled racist... The Obama media has already begun....
......The problem is Democrats have played this game for so long its now losing its effectiveness. The Black community is slowly beginning to realize that they have been played like a sucker for to long. The problems Black America experiences are not only still there they are getting worse. The realization that self-reliance and responsibility are needed to experience the American dream is beginning to sink in. Blacks are starting to see that the Democrats agenda of providing every thing for them is just another form of slavery, no different than the old antebellum South.......Don't count on the Democrats to abandon their strategy of labeling their opponents racist, its the only shovel they have left to dig their foxhole this November.........wait and see.....

American exceptionalism? ......Try European delusionism. Apr 20, 2010 5:30 pm

........Just when you think the "Continent"(Europe) can not get any more ridiculous they manage to come up with a new low. Antonio Tajani, the European Union commissioner for enterprise and industry, who was appointed by Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian prime minister wants tourism to be a "human right" and pensioners, youths and those too poor to afford it should have their travel subsidized by the taxpayer. His rationale behind this scheme is intended to promote a sense of pride in European culture, bridge the north-south divide in the continent and prop up resorts in their off-season. Noble causes I am sure but at taxpayer expense? Mr. Tajani in a EU ministers conference last week in Madrid said in so many words that the days of tourism for the rich at the expense of the poor ought to be over. Tourism he believes is a "Right" of all the people no matter their economic status........Ok lets see how this works. I drop out of high School because I hate sitting in a classroom when I could be outside doing exciting things. I could only find a minimum wage job and it took all I made to eek out a living all year. Now my two weeks are coming up and I want to go to Hawaii. I want to experience the pride and culture of the Hawaiian people. I stroll on into the local Government Trade and Tourism office pick up a $4000 voucher to cover my 2 weeks and a round trip plane ticket because its my "right". ...
......I think we are experiencing the ultimate in "Spreading the wealth around" philosophy. The next time the thought "only in America" crosses your mind when reading about a crazy event, think European Union........
