The other day my daughter stopped by HEB to pick up a couple of items I needed on her way to my house. While she was there she bought a bone for Peaches. When she pulled the bone out of the package I wasn’t sure if was a toy bone or an editable bone. It looked like a regular dog bone but had what looked like from where I was sitting little different colored pearls imbedded in it. I asked Stacee, she read the information on the package and said it was editable. I shrugged my shoulders and she gave the bone to Peaches. Peaches did as she always does, she grabbed the bone and trotted off to the middle of the floor in the living area, (she has this thing about being the center of attention), plopped her butt down and began working on that bone.
Peaches usually escorts visitors in and out of HER house, but later when Stacee left, she didn’t budge, she just kept chewing on that bone. She gave Stacee a little “see ya later” look when she told Peaches goodbye. A little while later I opened the back door to step outside so I could get a better look at my Rose of Sharon bush(tree?) which almost died when my neighbor flooded my yard last fall with his sprinkler system that had a broken head and he didn’t know how to turn the damn thing off.
Peaches is usually the first one out when I open the back door, but not this time, she was still gnawing on that bone. A couple of hours later, I had to go out to the garage, again Peaches is usually the first one out because she loves to go for a ride, she just assumes that when I go to the garage WE are going for a ride. She thinks she is supposed to go anytime I go, except when it’s time to go to the Vet, then she figures I should do that one by myself. Funny how she always seems to know the difference between when it's a trip to the vet and when it’s just a trip to the mail box. She didn’t move…still gnawing on the bone.
I’m thinkin’, “That’s got be the greatest dog bone ever created!”
I didn’t pay any mind to it after that. I went on to bed. The next morning when I got up to let Peaches out, she did her usual thing, jump off the bed run to the door, come back to see if I was following, run behind the sofa, come back to see if I was still coming and then finally on to the back door where she is anxiously awaiting my arrival so I can open the door and let her out. The minute there is a crack in the door, she’s out. I walked right past her “dining area”, I didn’t see the bone, didn’t even think about it. I’m still rather disoriented that early in the morning.
Several days past and I didn’t see that bone, didn’t even think about it, I just assumed she ate it. Yesterday morning, Peaches came running in and jumped up the bed. I played like I was still asleep and didn’t move or open my eyes. Now Peaches is not one to come licking my face and demanding I get up and let her out. She is good about holding her bladder and if I don’t move or open my eyes she will go back to her own bed until I get up, a personal trait of hers that I definitely appreciate.
When she peeked her head in the door the next time I was sitting on the edge of the bed taking my morning meds. She jumped up beside me and laid her head on my thigh, and stuck her nose under my hand and “nosed” it up towards the top of her head. That’s my signal to scratch the top of her head. (I told ya, she has to be the center of attention!)
After a fair amount of scratching, I asked her if she wanted to go out (a silly question) and she sprung off the bed and headed for the back door, with her usual routine to come back and check a couple of times to be sure I was still on track here.
As I mentioned, at this time of day I’m still a bit disoriented. Normally I open the door, and Peaches is out at the first crack of light. That didn’t happen this morning. I’m standing there in my drawers waiting for Peaches to exit but when I look down Peaches is nowhere to be seen. I know she didn’t get out the door without me seeing her. I’m not that disoriented.
A couple of seconds later, here comes Peaches just prancing down the hallway like she is the queen of Sheba with her head up, her tail wagging and that bone held firmly in her mouth. She prances out the door looking up at me as if to say, “I’ll be having Breakfast on the Lanai this Morning James.” Sometimes this dog cracks me up. I couldn’t help but laugh on the way back to bed. But it also flashed across my mind that between the times Stacee gave Peaches the bone and the time she decided to have breakfast on the “Lanai”, the housekeepers had been here. Either the housekeepers are getting’ rather lax in their duties or Peaches has one hell of a hiding place. As I crawl back under the covers,I’m thinkin’ "I should have a talk with the housekeepers."

Cute story..my guess is she hid the bone under your pillow. Dogs really are more human that most people think. Just as Peaches cracks you up with her activities, so does my Darcy dog.
May you always have LOVE to share, HEALTH to spare & FRIENDS that care.

She had that bone is a very secret place, one where the housekeepers wouldn't notice it... or they were smart enough not to bother it. You haven't mentioned the Dumber family... are they still around to call you Reek? I miss them. LOL Peaches sounds terrific... I wouldn't mind a smart dog like that, instead we have a Pongo Pudgy Butt... he's a pug and oh yes he gives the pug looks too.. rofl

Dogs know when they rule the roost. I laugh at the hoops ours makes us jump through for her.

That was an enjoyable story. Peaches has her priorities. Maybe she knows those secret places never visited by housekeepers.

Where is Rose all this time? You kept mentioning the housekeepers, Rose is the housekeeper with benefits
Gets3 replies on 8/1/2010 7:25 am: Rosie is not a housekeeper. |

I knew as soon as I saw HEB that this was going to be good...it sure was! Good for Peaches, controlling you like she does. It's 'cause she is female, ALL females have an instinct to rule males. Doesn't matter if the species are different, just rule!
Breakfast on the lanai for Peaches...perfect!
Funny Turtle should mention The Dumber Family, I was thinking of them yesterday and them calling you Reek.
If you can't go through life laughing, then why bother going!
Gets3 replies on 8/1/2010 7:39 am: Hi Abelle... . No doubt about it....sometimes it's hard to see who is exactly controlling who. The D's aren't around like they used to be. Maybe that will a story for later. |

I love dogs too. My dog hides his chew in play site and believes he has hidden it well. lol Cracks me up everytime he does it. The other dogs leave the chew alone, shake their heads and walk away. TIC
Enjoyed your blog. Thank you.

I was wondering what happened to the bone. So Peaches has her secret place to hide it. I was dog-sitting for the past 2 weeks a poodle named Lilly. Lilly is as cute as Peaches. Thanks again for sharing.
