My Views of a SFF bash.... Feb 22, 2011 8:17 am
1613 Views
When I first joined SFF I was spending way to much time alone, and Blogging was a diversion. After a while I learned there was a Bash close enough I could go, and meet some of the people of SFF. A couple of times I wanted to go, and didn't get to because of finances. I didn't know anyone well enough to room with them, and I couldn't afford to stay alone. Finally I just said "what the heck, they're willing to room with me, and they don't know me either". My first roomies were winkay, and builderwoman, and no one could have been more gracious. I had a ball, and I was hooked. Since then I have been to every St Pete bash and to Nashville, as well as the monthly Nashville Meet & Greet. In ' 09 we met in Nashville for Valentines day then took a 'Road Trip' to Atlanta. ThatBillGuy, Shay, MsTurtlebug, DaisyMae & Me. The only one in the group I had met prior to that 10 day trip was MsTurtlebug. I had a wonderful time, I think everyone did.

The point I'm stumbling my way to is this. If it hadn't been for certain people taking the initiative to plan and organize these Bashes, I would never have made so many Friends. The way we were all thrown together while participating in the games, and the meals, for me was the ice breaker that I needed, to get to know everyone. True, not everyone likes everyone, but we all come with the intention of meeting new people, making new friends, and seeing Old Friends.
Even though participation is not required, I think we all can agree that it's more fun if we do. Then we have the problem of choosing which ones we can afford to go to. As for me I can't go to all of them. I live on a fixed income like a lot of other single, older women.

I have learned a little about what it takes to have an 'Established' Bash. If you want it same time, same place every year you have to make arrangements months in advance. Someone has to step-up and deal with the Hotel, sign a contract to reserve the Hospitality/Party room so there will be a place for us all to gather. Some have decided that's not a necessity, because we are all adults and can do as we like. Without a gathering place, we might as well just plan a week-end with the people we like. Why bother calling it a Bash if everyone goes their separate ways?

When they are scheduled close together I don't have sufficient time to recoup. When they are scheduled close together AND in the same area, it makes a lot of us have to choose between the two, the established one or the newly planned one.

Last year we had people planning gatherings and bashes on the same, or almost the same dates, and it has started again this year. This is Under-minding previously established ones. This leaves the planner in a very bad position since a contract has already been signed. A lot of us don't know if we can make it or not till the last minute, leaving the planner on pins and needles as to whether or not expenses will be met or if they will have to pay out of their pocket. One might ask "why would anyone obligate themselves like that"? The planners I know personally do it because they Love making people Happy, and getting together with Friends.

I'm rambling, because I am sad today. I see the the ending of a wonderful time in my life, and yours as well, when there will be no more bashes. Maybe 'Gatherings' of people going here and there with no thought of whether or not everyone is being included.
That's not a Bash......

Tools explained Nov 16, 2010 8:00 am

Anyone who has ever used these tools, know this is too true.

Tools Explained

DRILL PRESS:

A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, denting the freshly-painted project which you had carefully set in the corner where nothing could get to it.

WIRE WHEEL:

Cleans paint off bolts and then throws them somewhere under the workbench with the speed of light . Also removes fingerprints and hard-earned calluses from fingers in about the time it takes you to say, 'Oh sh--!'

SKIL SAW:

A portable cutting tool used to make studs too short.

PLIERS:

Used to round off bolt heads. Sometimes used in the creation of blood-blisters.

BELT SANDER:

An electric sanding tool commonly used to convert minor touch-up jobs into major refinishing jobs.

HACKSAW:

One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board principle... It transforms human energy into a crooked, unpredictable motion, and the more you attempt to influence its course, the more dismal your future becomes.

VISE-GRIPS:

Generally used after pliers to completely round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand.

OXYACETYLENE TORCH:

Used almost entirely for lighting various flammable objects in your shop on fire. Also handy for igniting the grease inside the wheel hub out of which you want to remove a bearing race.

TABLE SAW:

A large stationary power tool commonly used to launch wood projectiles for testing wall integrity.

HYDRAULIC FLOOR JACK:

Used for lowering an automobile to the ground after you have installed your new brake shoes, trapping the jack handle firmly under the bumper.

BAND SAW:

A large stationary power saw primarily used by most shops to cut good aluminum sheet into smaller pieces that more easily fit into the trash can after you cut on the inside of the line instead of the outside edge.

TWO-TON ENGINE HOIST:

A tool for testing the maximum tensile strength of everything you forgot to disconnect.

PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER:

Normally used to stab the vacuum seals under lids or for opening old-style paper-and-tin oil cans and splashing oil on your shirt; but can also be used, as the name implies, to strip out Phillips screw heads.

STRAIGHT SCREWDRIVER:

A tool for opening paint cans. Sometimes used to convert common slotted screws into non-removable screws and butchering your palms.

PRY BAR:

A tool used to crumple the metal surrounding that clip or bracket you needed to remove in order to replace a 50 cent part.

HOSE CUTTER:

A tool used to make hoses too short.

HAMMER:

Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object we are trying to hit.

UTILITY KNIFE:

Used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard cartons delivered to your front door; works particularly well on contents such as seats, vinyl records, liquids in plastic bottles, collector magazines, refund checks, and rubber or plastic parts. Especially useful for slicing work clothes, but only while in use.

SON-OF-A-BITCH TOOL:

(A personal favorite!) Any handy tool that you grab and throw across the garage while yelling 'Son of a BITCH!' at the top of your lungs. It is also, most often, the next tool that you will need.

Hope you found this informative. It's coupled with a community service project I am working on. There is no need to send me a thank you note.

Some good advice!!!! Nov 13, 2010 10:26 am

For those of you who have to be hospitalize, I can tell you they LOVE to tape things down, and they don't spare the tape. Not to mention those little sticky things they use to hook you to monitors. If you have a heart cath they shave your pelvic area, and they put a huge sticky cover over the area. They don't remove the tape residue before they send you home. They tell you to get Acetone nail polish remover to get it off.
Now for my advice, Don't try to clean the shaved pelvic area with acetone, it is very painful. Just let your belly fat stick to your thighs till all the abrasions and razor burns have healed.
Trust me I learned the hard way...LOL

When I read CarolynVII's post I thought about something that happened back in '05.

I was worked at a Dry Cleaners/Laundry that did wash and fold. Someone brought their clothes in already sorted ready to wash. The lady that was on duty that day just dumped the baskets of sorted clothing into the front loading washers and turned them on. After the machine filled with water and started turning everything around, something started BUMPING against the glass door. She was watching to see what it was, when a very large adult toy (BO hit the glass. Being a Ministers wife she was quite shocked. Looking toward Heaven with her hands folded she said "Praise the Lord". All through the wash and rinse, every time it bumped the glass she rolled her eyes Heavenward, and repeated her "Praise the Lord". Needless to say someone else had to take those clothes out of the washer...

THE FINAL
INSPECTION

The Soldier stood and faced God,

Which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining,

Just as brightly as his brass..

'Step forward now, Soldier ,

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To My Church have you been true?'

The Soldier squared his shoulders and said,

'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.

Because those of us who carry guns,

Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,

And at times my talk was tough.

And sometimes I've been violent,

Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,

That wasn't mine to keep...

Though I worked a lot of overtime,

When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,

Though at times I shook with fear..

And sometimes, God, forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,

Among the people here.

They never wanted me around,

Except to calm their fears

If you've a place for me here, Lord,

It needn't be so grand.

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,

Where the saints had often trod.

As the Soldier waited quietly,

For the judgment of his God.

'Step forward now, you Soldier,

You've borne your burdens well.

Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,

You've done your time in Hell.'

It's the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us the freedom of the press.

It's the Soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us the freedom of speech..

It's the Soldier, not the politicians
That ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness..

It's the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag.

For the simple reason that it was misunderstood by some people. It was not aimed at any specific person. Although Belle deciding to have a Get-Together in Galveston the weekend before St Pete did spur me into action. There have been several times when Bashes have come way to close together, some on the same week-end. All I wanted to do was remind people how much work/money goes into planning a Bash. If they are planned to close together there are those of us who don't have the time or Funds to attend If the funds aren't there the Bash will soon be gone as well.

Ladies do you buy your Bras at Wal-Mart? Jun 18, 2010 7:27 am

Everyone should try this....

Recently I was in a department store shopping, and I saw a sign that said "Seven out of Ten women don't know their true Bra size". I knew right away there was a Bra sell going on so I didn't take the 'Bait'. Like most women I just go to Wal_Mart and buy the same size, same style. Lately my Bras have become increasingly more uncomfortable. Probably because of weight gain. I know I can't be the only woman with this problem.
Anyway that sign kept popping back into my mind until I decided to go online and use the 'Playtex' standard of measuring. Turns out all USA companies use the same standard measurements. So I followed the directions of measuring directly underneath my breasts, then around my breasts with my best fitting bra on. The under the breast is your band size, the difference in inches gives you the cup size, according to the chart. As you know, cup size comes in A,B,C,D,DD/E,DDD/F,G,H,J...etc.. I've been buying 42D for years. Recently I bought 42DD, but with the larger cup size they stop putting stretch straps and I can't stand rigid straps, and it's very tight.
My measurements said that I needed a 40J. I didn't believe it, so I ordered a 40G. When It came I could only hook it into the first eyes, and was still tight in the cup. So I ordered a 42G, knowing from experience the larger the band, the larger the cup. When it came I put it on it fit better than any bra I've ever had, but the cup is still a little tight. I think I will go ahead and order the 42J, even tho that seems a little extreme even to me...LOL
I just wanted to tell you this because you might be having the same problem. Life is to short to let your Bra squeeze your titties....
