OFFICE STAFF VERY GRACIOUS Oct 10, 2011 5:13 pm

Well, today I made copies of my petition. I stapled each set of 5 copies, and brought two to the club house. One was hung on the bulletin board while the other went directly to a manager.

She and a male who works in the office were very supportive. In fact, I think they were pleased that someone would make the effort to better our complex! They thought my concerns were legitimate and fair.

We discussed the broken gate, and once again I thought welded rebar set at several heights would stop vehicles from ever crashing the gates again. I want twelve to 15 inch rebar sticking out towards the vehicles at heights which will BREAK their headlights and puncture their radiators if they try to break in. The gate was last broken by a non-resident in a pickup truck who just slowly rolled into the gates till their sprung open.

The mailbox situation was discussed, and having a box OUTSIDE the building was thought to be the best solution. Some tenants have walked MANY blocks in order to mail a letter.

The final agenda was the outside security lights. We have thirty (30) buildings with 8 apartments per unit. The ones that have two bedrooms also have a much higher outside light. There are at least three different heights where we have the security lights which are a yellow-orange color when working properly. Some go out completely, and a minute later slowly turn white. Then they glow yellow-orange for a few seconds, and then turn off again.

I have offered to go around each building at night, and mark on a map where each problem light exists. Depending on whether the bulb is out 100% or where there is flickering, I will color code all of them. Once my map is completed, will make copies and date them before turning them into the office for maintenance to do the work.

This will make a lot of tenants much happier once the problems are fixed. Many of the older ladies as well as men are afraid to go outside after dark because it is TOO DARK without the security lights in working order. Some of the white round lights are also
out along the front of the complex.

Anyway, I am happy to have a project which will make a difference in here!

A VERY BUSY DAY Oct 8, 2011 11:18 pm

Since I was locked out of our club house today, I came home and wrote a petition stating it was unacceptable to the tenants to be locked out of the building without prior written notice. I also stated it was very difficult to mail letters since the office door was OFTEN locked, and that our mailman could not collect our mail or bring mail to the staff since the doors were locked.

I printed 5 copies with room for 16 names per page (the written petition was on the top of each page), and got them all filled by going to as many apartments as I could. I even had to come home and print up some more pages!

Most of the people gladly signed, and all were unhappy with the lack of communication between the staff and the tenants. A few people were afraid they might be terminated and have to leave if they did sign. Some already had plans to leave for other apartment complexes.

All in all, I knocked on about 150 doors today. Many were not home at the time. There were lots of people to meet, and many pet dogs in some of the buildings.

There was the almost 80 year old and the man on the heart transplant list who brought laundry today, and had to bring all their dirty items home. There was supposed to be a computer class taught this morning. And there was a group who had planned to rehearse this afternoon in the club house. None of these tenants were pleased when they found the doors securely locked with the staff refusing to answer even the telephones.

It was after dark when I got home, and there are still apartments to visit. I did get signatures from 29 of the 30 buildings here.
After making copies, I shall send them to the office here as well as Global Management and perhaps to HUD and Channel 13 television station that helps people with problems.

Hopefully, things will become more tenant friendly!

WHAT AN AGGRAVATING SITUATION Oct 8, 2011 10:54 am

This morning I took Shaq for his walk, and then headed for the club house with a fresh cup of coffee. I intended to work on another newly started jig saw puzzle in the library.

The door were LOCKED, and a small sign in the window said the office would be closed all day for staff meetings. The office has three rooms, and FOUR doors which are frequently shut and locked.

There was no warning about the building being entirely closed. The club house includes the laundry room, exercise room, theater room, library, very large main room with the big television, and another room with half a dozen computers as well as the lobby and bathrooms.

The only place you can mail a letter is in the office itself. Even the mailman is frequently unable to pick up mail or deliver it to the staff because of the locked doors.

They did say in the note that if you had an emergency you could call a maintenance man at a special phone number.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Many people do their laundry on Saturdays. It is a rare day that people aren't using the computers. People often visit in the main room while watching television. Some regularly use the exercise equipment. Quite a few people come and go in the library, selecting books or magazines to read. And I like to work on puzzles at a large round table there.

They haven't gotten around to renewing my lease which should have been done a couple months ago. The apartment IS nice, with its two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and two walk-in closets. The utilities are included in the rent.

IF I had plenty of money, moving would be a serious consideration.
Guess I will just have to suffer through today since the staff won't answer the telephones. Their personal vehicles are here so they ARE in that locked building.

POOR QUALITY PHOTO Oct 6, 2011 5:17 pm

This is a very poor quality photo of Danci, the Rottweiler who will be 11 or 12 this Halloween. 22 month McKenna is next to this dog who never should have survived her puppyhood!

She was 5 months old when she followed a neighbor's sled dog team on a three mile run, and then became tangled up in the harnesses when the team was returning. A couple of the team were badly injured, and the owner wanted to shoot Danci.

She also broke her leg when running through deep snow, and catching the leg on a buried snow machine. This animal got into tons of mischief including tearing the fabric top off my 1983 Plymouth Gran Fury.

But she ALWAYS loved people and baby animals of all kinds. She played with the calves, and they followed her around and slept with her. Baby kittens would sleep on her, and baby chicks would do the same thing. She got along great with rabbits.

Only once she almost lost her life while playing with a baby grizzly cub because the mother was furious! The local veterinarians were able to sew her up, and save her from this encounter.

OUTDOOR SHOWER FOR SHAQ AND ME! Oct 4, 2011 9:40 am

I took Shaq out early since our evening walk was very short due to all the water on the grounds, and dark skies overhead. My friend Rhea asked me to stop by this morning as her family is moving her back to Kansas.

Last night they loaded until the rains began, and were to finish today. They have a 27' truck they will drive back to Kansas while pulling Rhea's car which will contain crates for her cat and her dog, Mr. Oscar Mayer!

Rhea was stilling in her chair with the door open. She was already exhausted from yesterday. While we were chatting about the move, her daughter and a friend arrived to finish taking everything out of the apartment.

All of a sudden, it started raining again! I grabbed a doggy bag and put it over the electronics on the wheelchair. Since the heavy black material bags got saturated the day the chair was accidently left outside during a sudden storm, I grabbed them and put them on my lap.

There was no shelter on the way home, and Shaq doesn't like rain!
I had to stop to throw away his doggy waste bag, and dropped the leash. He quickly trotted home and barked at the door. He wanted inside!

I was soaked and cold while unlocking the door to the apartment.
Where is our 100 degree weather when I need it? I think the temperature is in the higher 70ies right now, but it feels colder when you are wet!

Thick, dark clouds seem to fill the skies overhead with tiny amounts of blue showing above the clouds. I didn't even get the mail yesterday because of the heavy rains. We need the rain but I hope this storm ends very soon.

VERY UNUSUAL LAS VEGAS AFTERNOON Oct 3, 2011 5:51 pm

Early this morning a number of us boarded the bus to Walmart so we could get the money orders for the October rent. Skies were blue but there were many white fluffy looking clouds.

This afternoon, the very loud boom of thunder was heard. I opened the door to see a torrential rain hitting our area. This was followed by lightning and at least seven other bursts of thunder.
At least an hour of rain caused flooding in area streets.

I called Melinda, telling her to make certain she takes a different route home after work! She already had plans to avoid the flooded area that is near the college. She had no intention of letting her car float again, or being a subject on the evening news!

It is now nearly 6 pm, and the skies are full of very dark clouds.
A small of amount of blue is seen among the darkness. Shaq might get a very short walk tonight if rain continues to fall in our valley.

Guess the air conditioning will not be needed anymore this year!

I PUT UP ANOTHER SCREEN SAVER..... Sep 25, 2011 10:53 pm

Though I have yet to receive a really good photo of great granddaughter McKenna, this one of her at 22 months is my current favorite.

Tonight, she was attempting to brush her hair first with a bottle brush, and then with a tooth brush! Her mom bought her a little shopping basket with some plastic foods in it earlier this week.
She has scattered the food on the floor, preferring to carry her books in the basket.

How I wish it were possible to spend time with her! From all reports from Alaska, she is very bright...and LOUD from what I hear over the telephone!

HE'S HOME AT LAST Sep 25, 2011 11:59 am

Last night George was able to finally sleep in his own bed for the first time in almost a month. He is very weak in his body though his mind seems strong.

Hopefully, Melinda will finally be able to spend most of today just sleeping as she sounded sick last night. I know both of them would like to FORGET all the events of the past month including the hospital stays, the surgeries, the flooded roads and very high expenses with the car, and the exhausting days of her working, racing to hospital or rehab, getting little sleep at night during the time George was so very ill.

Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. Success!!!!!

HALAL MEAT......SAFE OR NOT SO SAFE? Sep 23, 2011 9:37 pm

I just received an e-mail talking about Halal meat which is only available from Muslim slaughter houses. Reading about how they handle this, in theory it is supposed to be safe. The animal is killed using a very sharp knife which slashes through the windpipe of the animal while a Muslim prayer or saying is given.

I found that Mc Donalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken are just two of many U.S. fast food chains use Halal meats. Only Muslims are involved in this trade. Costco sells this product.

Halal meats are available in many of our grocery stores. Personally, I will avoid them since I don't think human life is a high priority of these people. A cattle commodities broker claims most of these plants are in Michigan and New York, and they are frequently cited and closed for unsanitary conditions.

FROM DEATH'S DOOR....... Sep 19, 2011 12:37 pm

When George was returned to the hospital from rehab, a day after getting there, his blood count was a near death 1.6 total. I think he had 7 more transfusions as he was very septic. He has an 18 inch incision in his abdomen, and they cauterized the large ulcer.
The surgical wound was not sewn or stapled so all the pus could get out.

I just spoke to him on the phone, and he sounded GOOD. He has been in the hospital over 48 hours now with no new bleeding. Tonight, they will once more transfer him to rehab to learn how to walk, etc. again. We hope and pray that THIS TIME he won't have to be returned to the hospital and the ICU or CCU.

Thank you for the prayers, kind thoughts, and interest shown about his illness and ordeal.
