JUST A DREAM
Relaxed in a deckchair in a haze of satisfaction Peace and quiet with no more hectic interaction Two weeks of bliss doing just what she wished As the golden sun smiled, the world was kissed Gently foaming waves glistened with silver tips As soft droplets of salt water moistened her lips
Rudely disturbed by a shower of scattered sand She flicked it away and drifted off to dreamland As reality crept in, she focused her dreamy eyes And watched her children chase after butterflies The sandpit abandoned, also buckets and spades With a sigh she rose and removed her eyeshades
She drifted indoors as imagination began to fade To return laden with fresh cookies and lemonade Happy little faces smiled with innocence and fun Stuffing their faces, trying to outdo the other one Emotions took over as she stored her dream away The rich pleasures of the moment fulfilled her day

A STORM AT SEA
A storm at sea releases a huge emotional swell Intrigue and mystery, power in a magical spell Bitter rain, cold and harsh from relentless skies Oblivious to all the suffering and hopeless cries Tossed around on waves ships flounder and roll Facing the dark anger, the turmoil taking its toll
Gasping for breath men stand soaked to the skin Clinging to each other, hoping the sea won’t win The sky rumbles and flashes in threatening intent The sea will claim its victims, it will never relent A spiteful message, with its arrogance unleashed So magnificent, respecting neither man nor beast
A real storm shows incredible passion and display When cast over the sea, it really does have its day

THE SUN’S MIRACLE
Watching people’s faces light up with a smile I spied something that’s been missing a while The Sun, that glorious, blazing sphere of light The dull grey outlook is now incredibly bright
Grass sparkles with lush green colour to please Trees are suddenly covered with shining leaves Rich kaleidoscopes of beautiful colours display The brilliant blue skies watch clouds drift away
Soft aromas of wafting flowers fill the clear air Cheerful people find time to just stand and stare Mysterious light mists float over hidden streams Nature’s gentle touch is awakened by sunbeams
The comforting heat inspires miracles of rebirth Seeds planted in hope explode up from the earth People become friendly, the world a happy place Just look at the sheer pleasure on everyone’s face

Worth the Wait

WORTH THE WAIT
For a long remembered time they had wanted a pet But their parents reply was, we cannot afford it yet ‘Just yet’ lasted forever and they were growing fast Their childhood desires gradually fading to the past Another birthday loomed, the twins soon to turn ten But by now they were hoping for a TV for their den
On their birthday morning downstairs the boys crept Eating breakfast in their den, as the parents still slept There were scuffling sounds, a gentle tap on the door And a flurry of tangled legs bounded across the floor Two little wet noses sniffed at the hands reaching out Two ecstatic little boys knew what patience was about

THE SECRET OF CLOTHES
A woman’s world, without a pretty dress Is like wandering round in the wilderness A cheerful face masks the anguish within Silence speaking volumes to belie the grin
A woman who is dressed like a work of art Confident and proud has only joy to impart Giving off an aura portraying sheer delight Knowing full well she is an attractive sight
A woman who dresses in comfortable attire Walks the easy paths, of familiarity’s desire Unconcerned with the looks that others give Doing her own thing, how she wants to live
A woman who chooses casual smart clothes Is equipped for anything, wherever she goes At work or play, travelling or meeting a date Lifting the spirits, even having a hand in fate

At the End of a Day

AT THE END OF A DAY
There is nothing to surpass the comfort of a warm bed Feeling safe and secure with a soft pillow for the head Drifting into dreams, with sweet music in gentlest play Releasing all the tensions and worries of a stressful day
When the night sky becomes angry and rumbles in pain Releasing spiteful torrents of cascading threatening rain Snuggled safely beneath covers feeling smug and secure The turmoil outside fades away, to make another detour
When the night’s dark curtain sparkles with illumination The Moon’s hazy glow inspires images and imagination Lost to a distant world, where paradise is never far away Sleep comes with a calmness, to prepare for another day

I Love My Computer!

I LOVE MY COMPUTER!
My computer died and it’s panic all round A lifeless dark screen and no hint of sound Knowing what to do would be a good thing Unfortunately I can’t fix it so who do I ring
Trying to sort out a muddle of tangled wires Not damaging vital parts so it totally expires Pulling leads out and then putting them back Now a response, hopefully it’s back on track
Now do I treat it kindly, or tell it what I think A piece of equipment, that’s gone out of sync Now pull the other leg, it has a heart and soul Shredding my nerves to become out of control
I can breathe again, lovingly dusting the screen Welcome back computer, where have you been Please don’t tease or plunge me deep in despair I admit I was ruffled, you gave me quite a scare

SUNSET
It’s the most beautiful sight that anyone can see The glorious setting sun, over a crystal blue sea Bewitching colours ablaze, to illuminate the sky Reflecting off gentle waves and pleasing the eye Hazy sun’s rays creating a glowing radiant light To softly fade and make way for a velvety night The spectacular phenomenon calms an inner soul Mother Nature superb, painting with such control

Surviving a New Phase

SURVIVING A NEW PHASE
One minute she’s riding ponies, Daddies little girl But suddenly her life becomes an emotional whirl Losing interest in riding and her boring school life Yet not quite ready for a load of trouble and strife Desiring freedom to have fun, enjoy all she could Yet her parents contained her, frustrated she stood
She made a show of taking the dog for a long walk And met up with her friends to make plans and talk A major crossroad needs debate and common sense It is easy to be tempted to the wrong side of a fence Coping with wild hormones, facing what lies ahead Learning to organise and cope, not hideaway in bed
Decisions lay heavy on the shoulders of young folk Independent and stubborn and treating life as a joke She was no exception and had to learn to slow down Preparing for a bright future with a smile not a frown Nothing’s easy but she was determined to make good It was goodbye to ponies to move on from childhood

WORDS
Letters mean nothing if they don’t form a word Typing without looking, the result often absurd Sign language is great, a spoken word is unique Giving most of us a voice, opportunities to seek
It is fascinating to hear different pronunciations People and accents from myriads of destinations Words can cause confusion, but with a lot of fun Children so amusing as they try to ask a question
There are words that have more than one meaning People invent their own, that often need screening New generations are more outrageous than the last Some old words survive, like a blast from the past
Words make up stories, poems and interesting news People can air their thoughts and consider all views Communication is easy, but the spoken word is best To speak words face to face simply passes every test
