Greetinngs,
Yes it is another patriotic themed post. What can I say, I am a grateful American girl!

Long story short: When I signed online today one of those awful popups popped up! As I was reaching for the handy dandy delete key I stopped!

It was a message from the USO. Remember them? They are still out there making the lives of our troops abroad feel like they are not forgotten.

The USO is the only sanctioned group to send care packages to our troops, especially with the tightened security after 911. For a nominal fee, with one click I was able to send a phone card (100 minutes),reading material, toiletries, cards, snacks and other miscellaneous items the recipient will use and enjoy.....from home! A friend and I sent many of such packages we put together to the troops in Desert Storm, cards and letters for many occasions and it was a bit pricey in the longrun. This was a snap. The good feeling at my end...............priceless!

The added perk for me is today is my Marine father's birthday......though he is in that detachment in the sky......It was a nice way for me to celebrate him.

So start those grills, raise those flags and get those pyrotechnics in order. The 4th of July is here. Be safe and have a great time.................whatever that means for you and yours on this summer holiday weekend. And please remember the far away and the fallen.

I do love those bottle rockets!

Surprising Facts About the Fourth of July (MSN)

Number 7 & number 10 were a surprise to me!!!

1. Independence Day commemorates the formal adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. However, it was not declared a legal holiday until 1941.

2. Fireworks were made in China as early as the 11th century. The Chinese used their pyrotechnic mixtures for war rockets and explosives.

3. Uncle Sam was first popularized during the War of 1812, when the term appeared on supply containers. Believe it or not, the U. S. Congress didn't adopt him as a national symbol until 1961.

4. There are many precise rules for taking care of the American flag. And speaking of flag traditions, we're sorry to report that contrary to legend, historical research has failed to confirm that Betsy Ross sewed the first flag.

5. Not all members of the Continental Congress supported a formal Declaration of Independence, but those who did were passionate about it. One representative rode 80 miles by horseback to reach Philadelphia and break a tie in support of independence.

6. The first two versions of the Liberty Bell were defective and had to be melted down and recast. The third version rang every Fourth of July from 1778 to 1835, when, according to tradition, it cracked as it was being tolled for the death of Chief Justice John Marshall.

7. The American national anthem, the "Star-Spangled Banner," is set to the tune of an English drinking song ("To Anacreon in Heaven").

8. The iron framework of the Statue of Liberty was devised by French engineer Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, who also built the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

9. The patriotic poem "America the Beautiful" was published on July 4, 1895 by Wellesley College professor Katharine Lee Bates.

10. Father of the country and architect of independence George Washington held his first public office at the tender age of 17. He continued in public service until his death in 1799.

No matter how you celebrate remember those who went before us and those who protect us now:

~~ How Fathers Were Created ~~ Jun 19, 2009 7:33 pm

I don't know who wrote this little story, but I thought I'd share it with all the father's out there.............

Enjoy your special day, fellas!

How Fathers Were Created

When the good Lord was creating fathers, He started with a tall frame.

A female angel nearby said, "What kind of father is that? If you're going to make children so close to the ground, why have you put fathers up so high? He won't be able to shoot marbles without kneeling, tuck a child in bed without bending or even kiss a child without a lot of stooping.

And God smiled and said, "Yes, but if I make him childsize, who would children have to look up to?"

And when God made a father's hands, they were large and sinewy.

The angel shook her head sadly and said, "Large hands are clumsy. They can't manage diaper pins, small buttons, rubber bands on ponytails or even remove splinters caused by baseball bats."

And God smiled and said, "I know, but they're large enough to hold everything a small boy empties from his pockets at the end of a day, yet small enough to cup a child's face."

And then God molded long, slim legs and broad shoulders.

The angel nearly had a heart attack. "Boy, this is the end of the week, all right," she clucked. "Do you realize you just made a father without a lap? How is he going to pull a child close to him without the kid falling between his legs?"

And God smiled and said, "A mother needs a lap. A father needs strong shoulders to pull a sled, balance a boy on a bicycle or hold a sleepy head on the way home from the circus."

God was in the middle of creating two of the largest feet anyone had ever seen when the angel could contain herself no longer. "That's not fair. Do you honestly think those large boats are going to dig out of bed early in the morning when the baby cries? Or walk through a small birthday party without crushing at least three of the guests?"

And God smiled and said, "They'll work. You'll see. They'll support a small child who wants to ride a horse to Banbury Cross or scare off mice at the summer cabin or display shoes that will be a challenge to fill."

God worked throughout the night, giving the father few words but a firm, authoritive voice and eyes that saw everything but remained calm and tolerant. Finally, almost as an afterthought, He added tears. Then He turned to the angel and said, "Now, are you satisfied that he can love as much as a mother?"

The angel shutteth up.

Pucker Power : Who knew? Jun 10, 2009 7:39 pm

Many of us these days are trying to lose a few pounds or remain as svelte as we are.
I came upon the information below which I wanted to share.
It could very well provide the extra incentive needed and explain why some seem to have more success with losing a few pounds than others.

Kissing stimulates more than 30 muscles in your face, which can help stimulate blood and smooth your skin. Kissing also prevents cavities, gingivitis and tartar buildup by stimulating saliva production. And a five-second kiss can burn up to 12 calories! (Matt Christensen)

So pucker up to improve your skin, teeth and gums while burning those calories! Try it....you'll like it!

Though this may be a warm up exercise, the more advanced moves should be as effective, if not more,in losing those last few pounds.
Note: No information was found on the calories burned for the French kiss workout.

Good luck and keep that Chapstick handy!
We're all in this together!

Older Women put the "Rock" in ROCKET Jun 9, 2009 7:03 pm

Age before beauty............I don't think so!

Enjoy ladies....We Rock!
Learn fellas....The 411
About women over 40:

60 Minutes Correspondent Andy Rooney (CBS)

As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:

A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, ‘What are you thinking?’ She doesn’t care what you think.

If a woman over 40 doesn’t want to watch the game, she doesn’t sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it’s usually more interesting.

Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won’t hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it’s like to be unappreciated.

Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They’ll tell you right off if you are a jerk if you are acting like one. You don’t ever have to wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it’s not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress.
Ladies, I apologize.

For all those men who say, ‘Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?’, here’s an update for you.
Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? Because women realize it’s not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!

Andy Rooney is a really smart guy!
For the rest of you guys that posses this knowledge... Bravo!
Thank you Andy!

To our fallen and their families of The US Military:
And those on duty as I write.........

THANK YOU ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I knew a man called him Sandy Kane
Few folks even knew his name
But a hero was he
Left a boy, came back a man
Still many just don't understand
About the reasons we are free

I can't forget the look in his eyes
Or the tears he cries
As he said these words to me

All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all

Now Sandy Kane is no longer here
But his words are oh so clear
As they echo through out our land
For all his friends who gave us all
Who stood the ground and took the fall
To help their fellow man

Love your country and live with pride
And don't forget those who died America can't you see

All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all

And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall, yes recall
Some gave all

Some gave all

Insert waving USA flag here......>

The only pirate of note recently was Captain Jack Sparrow......

Until thugs on the high seas emerged again..........

Heroic American captain gave himself for the safety of his crew.

American Captain Phillips made a daring, foiled escape attempt.

The crew made it to safety.

The United States Navy rescued the captain.

A WITCH HUNT --- ON EASTER.........#!*#!###!! Apr 11, 2009 6:13 pm

Dear friends,

Last evening I posted a bulletin to my friends network.

It was a very short Easter greeting and went something like this:

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter weekend.
Spring flowers, new beginnings and rejoicing in the season.

And everyone......enjoy the Peeps!

AND THEN::::::::: It was DENIED......yes DENIED......

For using a BANNED item. GOOD GRIEF!

I then fired off my tirade to the SFF Police and demanded to know what was the banned item. The response said oh,it may have been an error and to repost it. Never telling me what the BANNED item was. Forget it.
I am now in the ranks of the banned denied and other such members. I guess I have finally made the in crowd and wasn't even trying!

The moral: There is none...other than there must be a better place to be than on here. I will find it. If you have....do share.

So folks, rather than take another chance of being BANNED AND DENIED I shall say,

Merry Christmas to all,

Flooded Fargo Friends ------ Everyone okay? Mar 29, 2009 10:06 am

Another natural disaster..........

Just sending prayers and good wishes for the SFF folks in the Fargo area and or their families currently flooded by the Red River.

I have a good friend in that area who has MS. He managed to let me know this morning he was evacuated with his 2 cats to a nearby SUPER 8 motel for the duration.

He also told me on Friday it would not come to that!
Well done to yet another group of unsung heroes........all the rescue and disaster teams. Only in America!

I was relieved and thought about the other SFF friends and families who may be waiting to hear from friends and loved ones.

Good thoughts and prayers heading your way. Be safe.
