Valentine's Day--- Love it or leave it?

It is February 7th as I write.
We are fast approaching the alleged most dreaded day for singles. February 14th. Hearts, flowers, jewelry, candy, cards and other manner of declarations of love and interest in a particular someone special. Romance is in the air.... Where I ask? Maybe that is what keeps booting us out of chat?
Advertisers are reminding and guilting the guys to get with it or else. Not fair,I know guys! It would seem the gals don't need those reminders!
It might be safe to say this site is over flowing with romantics if you glance at most of the profiles...men and women alike. We have Cupid settings and kisses available for sending. I am impressed there are even flowers for giving. You can take care of all your Valentine needs right on line....hm?
I have heard several trains of thought on Cupid's calendar day. I hate it.I love it. It is just another day and so on. Bah Hum Bug. It can also be a day for remembering friends and family with a funny or sentimental card that says "I'm thinking of you and I care about you". It isn't all for romance!
Children love it. Much of the fun is deciding which Valentines to chose for giving and the the task of learning where you write your name and where you write the recipients name. I wasted a few envelopes in my day. They have parties at school and the anticipation and suspense of giving and receiving a Valentine is all around. Will she/he give me one? Who likes me? Who do I like? What if I don't receive any? Yikes. A first introduction into the boy/girl thing. Even poor Charlie Brown struggled with this.
Remember like or like-liking someone? There is a difference! Is that what a wink or a wave is? I don't really know what they signify! The kiss of course is more obvious. So to sum it up....it is still a source of angst or anticipation...we are just older and wiser ! Ha Ha
It can be a great day for singles....an excuse to approach someone you haven't had the nerve to contact, for those who view and view our profiles and do nothing more. What I'm saying is if you like it, enjoy. If you don't.....it is only one day a year!
It is fun and you may just have a secret admirer trying to get up the nerve to spill the secret. For me, I enjoy it no matter what my status may happen to be.
By the way-- Hershey's kisses...mmmmmm. Roses, red. Thank you.
From me to you: Happy Valentine's Day

Breathless---Shocking---Broken Hearts !

Bet you thought this was about a love gone wrong or other wild encounter? Nope. I spent the afternoon being re - certified in CPR/AED(automatic electronic defibrillator) and First Aid! Gotcha.
There were broken hearts........in a mannequin. Also shocks were delivered and there were breathless moments after CPR drills. For those who are not familiar with the process it is a bit tiring and the heels of your hands feel the pain of repeated compressions for a brief time. You don't really think about that when you are coming to the aid of someone.
The First Aid training was a piece of cake after the CPR/AED! When you are out and about, laughing and eating and all of a sudden you are choking.....OMG! Hopefully you will be among people who may know how to save your life! Not to make light of this but one never knows. I pray I never have to use these skills, but knowledge is power someone once said. I don't recall who that was but I believe it to be true.
This basic training is something I would encourage everyone who is able, to learn. You never know when a family member, colleague or friend may need you to save their life for real.
I don't like "tests", but it was not what I expected. It was very laid back and not as long as the original certification. This training was held at my office, so it was kind of fun seeing your coworkers on the floor!!!
I passed my test, so it was good day. Hope your day was too.

A little patriotism and a few pats on the back

Residing on the outskirts of Washington,D.C, I am currently in the midst of inauguration saturation. That is the main focus of all our news at the moment, and rightly so. Roads and bridges into the city will be closed, communications may be interrupted and many more unseen precautions are in place. History is in the making. I feel like I am in the safest place in the United States at this time. There has been so much patriotism in the air I started to think about just what that means to me.I am the daughter of a Marine and after that service, a police officer. As a little girl I never gave it much thought. I do remember being a Marine was earned, never given. As I have grown, so has my realization and appreciation of what that means to me now. We, as citizens of the USA owe so much to our military and often unsung and unseen civil servants and their families. The sacrifices and the pride they take in serving each and every citizen is beyond courageous.
On that note,I say I understand. I support you. I thank you for all you do. For those who may not agree, your right to do so is courtesy of those I speak.
A great big well done and thank you to Captain Sully and all the New York and New Jersey responders to the plane that ditched in the Hudson River!
Do we have heroes or what? Bless you all.

*~~A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE
~ One old love she can imagine going back to...and one who reminds her how far she's come...
~ Enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of her own, even if she never wants or needs to...
~ Something perfect to wear if her employer or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...
~ A youth she's content to leave behind....
~ A past juicy enough that she's looking forward to retelling in her old age.....
~ A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill and a black lace bra....
~ One friend who always makes her laugh and one who lets her cry....
~ A good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in the family...
~ Eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, and a recipe for a meal that will make her guests feel honored...
~~*A WOMAN SHOULD KNOW
~ How to fall in love without losing herself...
~ How to quit a job, break up with a lover, and confront a friend without ruining the friendship....
~ When to to try harder and when to walk away....
~ Her childhood may not have been perfect, but its over... ~ That she can't change the length of her calves, width of her hips, or the nature of her parents.....
~ What she would and wouldn't do for love...
~ How to live alone, even if she doesn't like it..
~ Whom she can trust, whom she can't and why she shouldn't take it personally....
~ Where to go - be it her friend's kitchen table or a charming inn in the woods when her soul needs soothing....
~ What she can and can't accomplish in a day, a month or a year......
~~*~~ A FEELING OF CONTROL OVER HER DESTINY ~~*~~
~~~~~ as told to me by another wise woman ~~~~~
