I think I'm stretching this "V" assignment a bit here in wanting to share a scenic VIEW of a pretty reservoir reflection and the beautiful red bud trees that were in glorious bloom on my recent jaunt through Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee. We don't find these trees here in Wisconsin so I captured them on camera to bring them home with me. My bf is here wondering how he can get away with picking a bouquet of buds for me.
This shot was taken in the park that surrounds the Missouri arch right on the banks of the Mississippi River and within walking distance of downtown St. Louie. It's remarkable that a major city such as this is as impeccably clean and beautifully tended as it is. It's enhanced with wonderful sculptures and gorgeous gardens. I was thoroughly impressed.
Next time you're driving the highway and see the Missouri arch, DON'T pass it by like my bf and I have always done before. The walkways and the parks are a must do/see. ( Several people commented on a previous post that that is exactly what they've done - saw the arch from the freeway and just kept on a-truckin' .... like Abelle and Thatguybill. I'm here to make them wish they'd never passed up the opportunity! )

This day, the rain ceased just long enough for me to drop my hood and umbrella and for my bf to get this snap of me in front of a beautiful memorial park with the St Louie arch in the background. The dome you see is the tip of the courthouse where the Dred Scott case was tried in the 1800's ... the case that in great part precipitated the Civil War and ultimately led to the Emancipation Proclamation.

............. our furthest point south of home.
"In addition to being home of so many of the masters of blues music, this part of Mississippi is also where actor Morgan Freeman comes from; and a few years ago Freeman decided that he wanted a good place to eat when he was back home away from Hollywood. With a couple of local partners, he opened Ground Zero, which is a gigantic juke-joint / eat-place across the road from the town’s estimable Blues Museum."
Ground Zero's signature statement is .... well, it's the signatures of those who have visited or frequent the joint! We left our John Henry's. Here's my boyfriend against the backdrop.

ME and Tim Norman at Sweetie Pie's in St Louis! The pic is blurred .... don't ask me why! The ONE photo of my trip I wanted to be special ......... blurred. Gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! Blame it on my bf!!
From G**gle:
"Tim Norman was born and raised in St. Louis, MO by his single mother Robbie Montgomery. His father passed away before he was born, so Tim and his mother have always been very close. At the age of 17, Tim was arrested for armed robbery and sentenced to serve 10 years in prison. Upon his release he vowed to make something positive out of his life and joined the family business, where he now helps to manage his mother's two successful restaurants Sweetie Pie's, and Sweetie Pie's at the Mangrove.
In addition to his work at Sweetie Pie's, Tim is very active in his local community where he helps create jobs for newly paroled and homeless residents and provides food to those in need. He also participates in several youth-oriented organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club, where he works with at-risk youth to help inspire self-confidence and guide them down a positive life path. He has received several state and city awards for assisting his community and for good citizenship."

Some ( I have to qualify 'some' )of the crap I read in blogs these days is just so much trash it's enough to make me feel deprived of intelligent discourse.
WHERE, oh where, have the very best and most thought-provoking bloggers gone to on this site? Where is Stillwater, our mainstay, gone? Why has he been driven off?? He never failed to provoke THOUGHT! I miss the stimulation!! Don't YOU?
Though this will strike a nerve with some, I also appreciated Skipper. Though his point of view did not endear him to some here, we were in accord.
Please help me to acknowledge others who have gone asunder that never had to count on creating dissension to garner responses and brought something of substance to the front.
I check in EVERY SINGLE DAY hoping to meet with that again and, to my dismay, I find the site over-run with an abundance of sheer nonsense.
If I deserve a smack upside the head for daring to say this, please feel free to hit me where it hurts.

As you know, Jim and I had originally planned to leave for the bayou the Friday after the Trout Unlimited event on Thursday but that torrential rains and flooding with FEMA on site brought that plan to a screeching halt. Determining the bayou country was a no-go this year, we set to mustering a plan B. We were to leave tomorrow morning (Monday) for St. Louis and then trek onwards to Memphis, and then forward to Ground Zero at Clarksdale, Mississippi to see some good entertainment, and then catch a stretch of Natchez Trace, just following our noses to see country neither of us had visited before.
Well, we were DAMNED this morning looking at the weather channel and viewing a line of severe thunderstorms that could easily produce tornadoes in those parts, and and now we're in a holding pattern AGAIN! Mother Nature is stubbornly refusing to cooperate with us. We'll be on hold for the next couple of days to give her an opportunity to reek havoc if she's going to do so and then dare to set a plan C into action a few days out.
Can you BELIEVE snow in Arizona and 80 degree temps here at home in Wisconsin???? Unfathomable this time of year!! With fear of those weather fronts meeting head on, I shudder to think of the damage that could conceivably be done. We might have to make certain our last wills and testaments are in order before we head on down the road. LOL I commented to Jim this morning on the way back from our St Patrick's night away about the greening of lawns and budding of trees already and that we could almost imagine people mowing lawns here in the winter time in years to come.
Oh, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! I have two ladies at my front porch with bibles in their hands ringing my bell and rapping persistently. Looks like they left the little one at home today. My front door is wide open with only a locked screen between us. Shhhhhhhhhhh, I'm going to play possum. Then again, this may be my last opportunity to meet the Lord before Jim and I leave on vacation. LOL!!!
Later, folks.

Two years ago today ................

Two years ago today, St Patty's Day, my boyfriend and I landed in Houma, Louisiana on a trip through the bayou en route to New Orleans.
The very first thing we did that afternoon - even before we found a place to bunk that night - was to seek out an Irish Pub. Well, we first lunched at Victor's right on the main drag where we had the best soul food we found on the whole trip! Then .... we set out on foot.
Lo and behold, we wandered onto MaHoney's. It was early afternoon and the place was closed for business, but we found the door wide open and the brand new proprietor on site scrambling to get things in order for a festive evening. The place was in a state of reconstruction. He proudly invited us in to have a look-see, set up a free cocktail in typical southern hospitality style and sat down to chat with us. He was a sweetheart! He directed us to a great place to log, provided us with a map of Houma highlighting the route, jotted down the local taxi number, and just plain ole made us feel warmly welcome.
That night .............

We had the time of our lives! So much so, that we planned to return again this year for a repeat performance.
Well, plan underway with a departure date set for yesterday, come Wednesday's news that Houma was under water so severely that FEMA was already on site setting up shelters and evacuating people from their homes. WHAT A BLOW!! We determined the bayou was a NO GO.
Oh, well .... we're rolling with the punches as best we can on the spur of the moment. We've revised our plan and will be dining at Sweetie Pie's in St. Louis on Tuesday! From there .... who knows? We're going to wing it for a week or so just to get out of Dodge!
See you all on the flip side.
