SPACE

In life, we create problems in relationship and interaction when we do not allow our loved ones the space that they need for their own flights of fancy, activity and choices. That is my reason for choice of this tit le SPACE for my blogs.

Best wishes to all.

THE GOLDEN YEARS May 23, 2012 5:23 pm

Received gratefully from an old Army Friend

Several days ago as I left a meeting , I desperately gave myself a personal TSA pat down. I was looking for my keys. They were not in my pockets. A quick search in the meeting room revealed nothing.

Suddenly I realized, I must have left them in the car. Frantically, I headed for the parking lot. My wife has scolded me many times for leaving the keys in the ignition. My theory is the ignition is the best place not to lose them. Her theory is that the car will be stolen. As I burst through the doors , I came to a terrifying conclusion. Her theory was right. The parking lot was empty.

I immediately called the police. I gave them my location, confessed that I had left my keys in the car, and that it had been stolen.

Then I made the most difficult call of all, "Honey," I stammered.

I always call her "honey" in times like these. "I left my keys in the car, and it has been stolen."

There was a period of silence. I thought the call had been dropped, but then I heard her voice. "Idiot", she barked, "I dropped you off!"

Now it was my time to be silent. Embarrassed, I said, "Well, come and get me." She retorted, "I will, as soon as I convince this policeman I have not stolen your car."

The golden years.

REAL MEDITATION AND LEARNING TO LET GO May 22, 2012 5:10 pm
92 Views

Real meditation is not about mastering a technique; it’s about letting go of control. This is meditation. Anything else is actually a form of concentration. Meditation and concentration are two different things. Concentration is a discipline; concentration is a way in which we are actually directing or guiding or controlling our experience.

Meditation is letting go of control, letting go of guiding our experience in any way whatsoever. Learn more about letting go of control from a master, here:

For a human being to let go of control is actually an immense thing. It sounds easy to say, “Just let go of control.” But for most human beings, our entire psychological structure, our entire psychological self, our egos, are made up almost entirely of control. To ask a mind or an ego to let go of control, then, is a revolutionary idea. When we let go, even for a moment, certain hidden fears and hesitations arise. “What if I let go of control,” the mind says, “and nothing happens? What if I sit down to meditate, letting everything be as it is, and nothing happens?” This is usually why we grab on to some technique or to some discipline, because the mind is afraid that if it lets go of control, nothing will happen.

What I am suggesting in True Meditation is that we actually see, that we look at meditation as a way to investigate. True Meditation really isn’t a new technique so much as it is a way of investigating for yourself–in your own body, in your own mind, upon your own authority, upon the authority of your own experience–what happens when you start to relinquish control and allow everything to be as it is. What happens when you allow your experience to be exactly as it is without trying to change it. Instead of a technique, True Meditation is actually a means of investigation. What happens when we actually let go of control and manipulation?

MENTALLY YOUNG May 21, 2012 6:04 pm

This is c/p of my read last night - I believe it is worth sharing with all my friends.

We need to redefine aging. At 65 years old, I often meet younger women who want advice on how to look young on the outside. My advice always is to be young on the inside.

The best way to stay young is to start young. You can definitely look and feel 10 years younger naturally by following the right program, but studies show that people fail to understand how much the body ages each decade. Starting the right routine in your 20s, 30s, or 40s is the way to maintain a youthful spirit and body. In launching my new book on aging, we formulated a quiz to allow people to get some insight into how fast their bodies were aging. It was fascinating to see how many people were having symptoms they had no idea were tied to premature aging.

We need to have the energy to live the life we were destined to and manifest our dreams. This internal fountain of youth relies on many things. The most overlooked is the health of our digestive system.

Beneficial bacteria and yeast have long been thought to slow down the aging process. Their use has been advocated by some pretty impressive innovators who had the courage to sidestep the conventional thinking of their day.

Élie Metchnikoff, a Russian microbiologist and a contemporary of Pasteur, made the study of microbes and the role they play in the immune system his life’s work. His theories about white blood cells were scorned by the “microbe hunters,” such as Pasteur, but Metchnikoff was later vindicated, winning the Nobel Prize in 1908.

Metchnikoff lived to the age of 71, unusual for his day. He believed that lactic acid could prolong life, and drank sour milk every day to prove it! He is one of our earliest probiotic pioneers and practitioners!

As for looking younger . . .bacteria affect us in cosmetic ways as well. Bad bacteria cause fine lines on the skin, freckles, and age spots. So to combat the bad bacteria, skin-care companies are now putting probiotics into their creams and lotions. But beautiful skin cannot be purchased in a jar. It is the result of being clean from deep within ourselves. This can only be accomplished by removing dangerous substances from our bodies and putting back in the finest nutrients and purest water.

For years women from around the world have reported to me that being on the Body Ecology Diet has given them ageless skin. The main factor I attribute that to is the health of the digestive tract and the abundance of beneficial bacteria. Having skin that glows from the inside out should be natural to all of us and can be achieved at any age.

THE STORY OF MY LIFE IS THE STORY OF YOUR LIFE May 20, 2012 5:50 am

Dedicated to a very dear fiend - stolen from an anonymous poet :

Don't say you're not important,
It simply isn't true,
The fact that you were born,
Is proof, God has a plan for you.

The path may seem unclear right now,
But one day you will see,
That all that came before,
Was truly meant to be.

God wrote the book that is your life,
That's all you need to know.
Each day that you are living,
Was written long ago.

God only writes best sellers,
So be proud of who you are,
Your character is important,
In this book, know that you are the Star.

Enjoy the novel as it reads,
It will stand throughout the ages,
Savour each chapter as you go,
Taking time to turn the pages.

AVARICE - A SHORT EXPLANATORY STORY May 19, 2012 7:29 am

Monkey-hunters in India use a box with an opening at the top, big enough for the monkey to slide its hand in. Inside the box are nuts.

The monkey grabs the nuts and now its hand becomes a fist. The monkey tries to get its hand out but the opening is big enough for the hand to slide in, but too small for the fist to come out.

Now the monkey has a choice, either to let go off the nuts and be free forever or hang on to the nuts and get caught.

Guess what it picks every time? You guessed it. He hangs on to the nuts and gets caught.

We are no different from monkeys. We all hang on to some nuts that keep us from going forward in life. We keep rationalizing by saying, "I cannot do this because..." and whatever comes after "because" are the nuts that we are hanging on to which are holding us back.

Successful people don't rationalize. Two things determine if a person will be a success:

Reasons and Results. Reasons don't count while results seem to!

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES May 13, 2012 6:44 am

Three sisters ages 92, 94 and 96 live in a house together.
One night the 96 year old draws a bath.. She puts her foot in and pauses...
She yells to the other sisters, "Was I getting in or out of the bath?"
The 94 year old yells back, "I don't know. I'll come up and see."
She starts up the stairs and pauses "Was I going up the stairs or down?"
The 92 year old is sitting at the kitchen table having tea listening to her sisters.
She shakes her head and says, "I sure hope I never get that forgetful," she knocked on wood.
She then yells, "I'll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who's at the door."

I CAN HEAR JUST FINE!"
Three retirees, each with a hearing loss, were playing golf one fine March day.
One remarked to the other, "Windy, isn't it?"
"No," the second man replied, "it's Thursday...."
And the third man chimed in, "So am I. Let's have a beer."

OLD FRIENDS Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the years, they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards. One day, they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, "Now don't get mad at me.. I know we've been friends for a long time but I just can't think of your name.. I've thought and thought, but I can't remember it. Please tell me what your name is." Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared and glared at her.

Finally she said, "How soon do you need to Know?"

SENIOR DRIVING
As a senior citizen was driving down the motorway, his car phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, " Vernon , I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on M25. Please be careful!" "Hell," said Vernon , "It's not just one car.. It's hundreds of them!"

DRIVING
Two elderly women were out driving in a large car - both could barely see over the dashboard. As they were cruising along, they came to major crossroad. The stop light was red, but they just went on through.

The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself "I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went through a red light." After a few more minutes, they came to another major junction and the light was red again. Again, they went right through. The woman in the passenger seat was almost sure that the light had been red but was really concerned that she was losing it. She was getting nervous. At the next junction, sure enough, the light was red and they went on through. So, she turned to the other woman and said, "Mildred, did you know that we just ran through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us both!"

Mildred turned to her and said, "Oh! Am I driving?"

MODERATE YOUR EGO May 12, 2012 9:44 pm

Sharing a story that I just read

Many of us, irrespective of our backgrounds and beliefs, are victims of a serious character flaw called the EGO. Ego is defined as an exaggerated sense of self-importance and it is quite difficult to get over this flaw.

In this connection I wish to recall a story about a scientist who, after a lot of practice & efforts, developed a formula & learned the art of reproducing himself. He did it so perfectly that it was impossible to tell the reproduction from the original like many of the currency counterfeiters we have in India today.

One day while doing his research, he realized that the Angel of Death was searching for him. In order to remain alive he reproduced a dozen copies of himself. The reproduction was so perfect that all of them looked exactly like him. Now when this Angel of Death came down, he was at a loss to know which of the thirteen before him was the original scientist. However being an expert in human nature, the Angel came up with a clever idea.

He said to the scientist addressing all thirteen of them, "Sir, you must be a genius to have succeeded in making such perfect reproductions of yourself. However, I have discovered a flaw in your work, just one tiny little flaw."

The scientist immediately jumped out & shouted, "Impossible! where is the flaw?" "Right here" said the Angel, as he picked up the scientist from among the reproductions & carried him off.

The scientist could not control his pride, so he lost his life. So when man's Knowledge & Skills takes him to the top of the ladder & makes him successful, just the three letter word "EGO" can pull him down.
So don't allow Ego to kill you,

Instead; WATCH YOUR EGO..!

SHARING WHAT A DEAR FRIEND SHARED WITH ME :

1. "Anger is a Condition in Which
The Tongue works Faster than the Mind. "

2. "If you Enjoy what you Do, Don't be Afraid of Expressing your Enthusiasm. Enjoyment is Infectious and you will Bring others Along with you." - Alan Sugar

3. Confidence

A hypothetical situation where 20 CEOs board an airplane and are told that the flight that they are about to take is the first-ever to feature Pilotless Technology: “It is an unmanned Aircraft.”

Each one of the CEOs is then told, privately, that their Company's Software is running the Aircraft's Automatic Pilot System.

Nineteen of the CEOs promptly leave the Aircraft, each offering a different type of excuse!!

One CEO alone remains on board the Jet, seeming very calm indeed....!

Asked why he is so Confident in this first unmanned flight, he replies: "If it is the same Software that's developed by my Company's IT systems department, this Plane won't even Take Off!!!"

That is called Confidence!!

Look to this day
For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness.
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day.

PROUD TO BE ME AT MY 115 YEARS May 8, 2012 5:56 pm

Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not blame others.

HOWEVER, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT the senior citizens who took

The melody out of music,

The pride out of appearance,

The courtesy out of driving,

The romance out of love,

The commitment out of marriage,

The responsibility out of parenthood,

The togetherness out of the family,

The learning out of education,

The service out of patriotism,

The Golden Rule from rulers,

The nativity scene out of cities,

The civility out of behavior,

The refinement out of language,

The dedication out of employment,

The prudence out of spending,

The ambition out of achievement or
God out of government and school.

And we certainly are NOT the ones who eliminated patience and tolerance from personal relationships and interactions with others!!

And, we do understand the meaning of patriotism, and remember those who have fought and died for our country.

Just look at the Seniors with tears in their eyes and pride in their hearts as they stand at attention with their hand over their hearts!

YES, I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN!

I'm the life of the party..... Even if it lasts until 8 p.m.

I'm very good at opening childproof caps..... With a hammer.

I'm awake many hours before my body allows me to get up.

I'm smiling all the time because I can't hear a thing you're saying.

I'm sure everything I can't find is in a safe secure place..... somewhere.

I'm wrinkled, saggy, lumpy, and that's just my left leg.

I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.

Yes, I'm a SENIOR CITIZEN and I think I am having the time of my life!

Now if I could only remember who sent this to me.....

Spread the laughter
Share the cheer
Let's be happy
While we're here.

And, MAY GOD BLESS YOU !
