For the graduate in your life.... or even for us because it over 'til it's over

My daughter wrote this for her nephew, but it is applicable to everyone.... any young person just starting out in "life" or even us seniors who have a lot of life still ahead of us. She has a knack for poetry (yep, got it from me ) I hope you enjoy it, and might want to use it in a card or note to someone special in your life or just to yourself.
Your future lays before you, your journey has begun, And you are the composer of this song yet to be sung. The fruits you reap tomorrow are from the seeds you sow today, The decisions that you make are the stones that pave your way. The road is not always easy, jagged rocks are sometimes found, Turn to those who truly love you, they are your solid ground. If you lose direction, and get lost out in the night, Reach for them and take their hand, they are your guiding light. This journey is amazing with exciting things to see, Set your goals and start your way, only you can make it be. Bring to life your future, leave your past mistakes behind, Choose the things that lift you up, and great things you will find. Ultimately remember, only you can make the choice, Of how your song is written, and give that song a voice.

Elderly? ELDERLY? Who do you think you are talking to?

My sister lives in the town just about 5 miles from me, and every year in May, they have city wide garage sales. For several years, she and I have gone together to look around, but more for just the time together. And I must admit, that every year finds us moving a little? slower, but we still have a great time.
One of our stops was a new little resale shop uptown. I laughed when I said up town because this is a town of 1300 people and it doesn't even have a grocery store. Anyway, we browsed the little shop and I bought a couple of paperback books for a quarter each, and then we started to go back to her truck. As we walked out, I noticed a plant stand that was shaped like a butterfly and painted with iris flowers.
The man and wife who ran the shop were very friends folks, and my sister knows everyone in town because she works mornings in the "city building" dealing with the water utilities. She called the man's name and asked him how much for the plant stand. He laughed and said,"$15, but I'll let it go for $10." I said, "Sold." and handing him the money.
My sister picked it up to carry to the truck, and the wife must have asked the man if my sister bought it because he said, "No, it was the elderly woman." ELDERLY? Now, I might have let it go, but my sis started smiling and said, "Did he just call you elderly?" I said, "He sure did!"
I turned and went back into the shop door. "EXCUSE ME!? You called me ELDERLY?" He laughed and said, "Uh, no. I said older lady." I started laughing and said, "Oh no you didn't. There is nothing wrong with my hearing and you distinctly said elderly woman! I worked in the nursing homes, and I can tell you I am definitely NOT elderly. I think I want my money back!"
He could tell I was teasing by my laughter, but it sure blew my fun day for awhile. My sis laughed about it all day, but after we got home last night, she texted me because her muscles were trying to tell her that she was elderly too... she is 10 years my junior!

A Message from Destiny's family

Donald called me today to tell me that Claudette was cremated and her ashes will be buried with her husband on Saturday. He also wanted me to express the family's gratitude to all of her friends in SFF for being such a good friend to her and for all your expressions of love through cards and letters during her illness and comments in the on-line memory books.... that is when I learned there is more than one. We laughed together as he described trying to organize his mother's writings... she had often laughingly told me that she pitied the kids trying to make sense of her "filing" system, which was piles and boxes. I am making this a read only blog.... we have each already expressed our feelings, but I just wanted to share with you what the family thought. I hope it will bring a smile. It did to me.

A "happy" note about a sad occasion

Joe and I are still in Branson, MO and enjoying our time here. We have found our limitations and taking life easy within them. We definitely plan on a return trip in the not too distant future.
While here, we have received the sad news of friends in SFF passing away, and also my very sweet brother inlaw, Pud. He was my late husband's sister's husband and just a couple of years older than me. He had some serious health issues for almost 20 years, but because he was the kind of guy who never let anything get him down, we just never expected him to die so young. He was the kind of person who always had a smile, a joke, and always teased me until I blushed! There are many stories I could tell about him too!
A person may not realize just how many lives we touch until we are gone. Pud's family found this out at his visitation and funeral. One of his passions was old cars. He and his son both had a few, and belonged to car clubs all over our area.
There were almost 500 folks that passed through the visitation the evening before his funeral, and many of them drove their old cars there. At his funeral, other old car buffs drove their cars to give Pud one last procession. In the words of my nephew, "The Funeral Home had a parking lot of old cars during both Visitation and Funeral, The Funeral Home is owned by a very nice guy who also has his share of old cars, They gave dad his last cruise in a 50s hearse and had a late 40s Chrysler Presidential Limo for the family car,The Bearers drove My dads 38 Ford,41 Ford Truck,My Model A sedan and a friends Model A Coupe."
I found the thoughfulness of all these people to be uplifting, and I know my sister inlaw found it that way also. It turned a very sad occasion into a happier one. The newspaper even ran an article about it and I'll try to include a picture of part of the parking lot.

Destiny's obit and memory book

I know I said that I had written my last blog about Destiny, but I guess I lied. I wrote this one early, but it was denied and I had to edit it.... then it showed up at the bottom of the page, so I deleted it and wrote it again.
I was searching for Destiny's obituary, and found this beautiful tribute to her. There is a memory book that messages can be left by friends. I wanted to share it with anyone who would like to read it and/or sign the book for the family to read.
I know I cannot share the link here, but if you search for Claudette Kiely obituary, it can be found.... or go to the Barry Farrell Funeral Home in Holyoke, MA.

There is an old saying, "In the midst of life is death." and I am discovering today just how true that is.
About three hours ago, I received word that my late husband's brother in law had passed away. He held a very special place in my heart and Joe really liked him too. My heart broke for my sister in law... they had been married almost 42 years.
And now, just a few minutes ago, I received the awaited but dreaded call from Destiny's son. Destiny passed quietly away in no pain with her children by her bedside. One daughter was in the hospital at the time, but was with them via telephone as their mother left their presence and joined her husband and all the loved ones who had gone on before her.
How wonderful a person is her son, Donald, whose thoughts included us, Destiny's friends, at a time like this.
May God give them all peace, comfort, and strength as they go through the motions of what needs done during these next few days.

HELP!!!!! We've fallen in love with Branson and we can't get home.....

Here it is, 1am, and we should be asleep to get ready for the drive home tomorrow........ BUT..... we have been busy on line, scouting more economical motels than the one we are still in. This is an ok place, and we stayed here for a couple days after the others left so we didn't have to pack and move. But Branson has caught ahold of us and won't let us leave yet, so we are going to a less expensive place. There are other things that we want to see and do, and at first we thought we could come back in a couple weeks or months. But we have other places to go at those times, so now is the best time to do it. We do plan on coming back in Sept. or closer to Christmas because Joe really wants to see Andy Williams in person and that is when he will be here. Today, we saw a tribute to Marty Robbins, and it was excellent. It was in "The Little Opry" and when we bought the tickets, she asked if Joe was a veteran. He is. The veteran discount for that theater is buy one-get one free. There are several other tributes and shows there, so we will definitely go see them. Tonight, we went to the Andy Williams Moon River Theater and saw "Oh What A Night", a group of 4 hunks... uh, guys... who performed Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons hits. WOW. They were fantastic. The seats were very comfortable and the show was fantastic. I even bought the tee shirt and had them autograph it.... but alas, NOT while I was wearing it. Darn!

Having a good time in Branson, MO

Branson is only 6-7 hours from our house, but I had never been here before. Another internet group decided to meet here, so Joe and I decided it was a good opportunity to check it out. I found that looking online to find information about shows and hotels was rather confusing because so much of it was through travel or tourist organizations. Already having a hotel picked with a group rate has turned out great. We have talked with local folks about less expensive but clean motels, and I ask them, "If your family comes to town and needs a motel, where do they stay?" We also found that picking up lots of brochures about the different theaters is great because then I can go online and find specifics about their shows and times. Many of them have 2 and sometimes 3 different shows a day. We have extended our stay by a day and maybe two if we find another show we would like to see. There was much damage from the tornado in Feb. and remodeling and rebuilding going on, but there is still a lot to see and do. Last night Joe and I went to the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theater and saw Legends in Concert. There was Shania Twain, Marilyn Monroe, Barry White, Patsy Cline and the Blues Brothers. It was really good, and we had a great time.... of course, we always have a great time when we are together. Here we are with Shania Twain and Barry White..... well, that is who they SAID they were!

Update on Destiny. April 23rd.

I spoke to her son again today. Destiny is drifting in and out of awareness, and doesn't even try to speak anymore. Her oxygen levels have fluctuated dramatically, sometimes down into the 40s and 50s (90s are normal, 80 is low) and at times has had to have her oxygen at 15 liters. (2 liters - 4 liters is usual) The doctors have not tried to give the family a time frame, but they all know they will soon be without their mother. The ONE good thing is that, thanks to the morphine, she is not in any pain. They are all thankful for that, and also for the prayers and good thoughts of all her friends. As I typed the title for this, and the date, the scriptures of Psalms 23 came to my mind...... "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." I pray this comfort encompasses her family as she passes through this shadow. After many conversations with Destiny about this very time in life, I know the scriptures are her comfort and strength. This was a very hard blog for me to write, and I fear the next one about our friend will be the last.

Back in November, I received this email from SFF.

I immediately questioned WHEN had I done this offense, and they wrote back.......
"Subject: RE: Maxine cartoon [88570741] Date: Fri, 4 Nov 2011 19:30:21 -0700
Dear Member,
Thank you for your email.
Here is the information for the blog post you requested:

Please let us know if we can assist you further.

I responded, laughing, because as you can tell by the date, SOMEBODY had went a long way back in my blogs to find an offense to report against me. Desperate fella, eh?
However, now a member has been removed for exactly the same offense of using Maxine cartoons. Yes, I know "everybody" does it.... Those cute cartoons of Maxine, Garfield, Peanuts characters, etc. with cute sayings bring smiles and laughter.
But they are copyrighted, and SOMEBODY is watching and reporting them to SFF. Granted he is probably only reporting the folks he doesn't like, but it could trigger SFF to start checking these things routinely.
So this is just a heads up to everyone. Be careful. Be safe. This is a fun place, but ONE bad apple can spoil the whole barrel for everyone else.
